If it already seems like this year’s flu season is a lot worse than it normally is, that’s because it definitely is: New York just saw a record number of flu cases. Most people recover from fever and other symptoms within a week without needing medical attention. However, the flu can cause severe illness or death, especially in people at high risk:

🤰Pregnant women
👶Children aged 6 months to 5 years
👴Adults aged 65 years and older
😩Individuals with chronic medical conditions
👩‍⚕️ Health-care workers

If your flu is not getting better, see your health provider as soon as you can.

This time of year brings more respiratory viruses like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The virus causes mild cold-like symptoms for most people, but it can be very serious for adults 65+ or those with certain chronic medical conditions. To protect yourself & others:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you’re sick.
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper shirt sleeve, not your hands.
• Clean frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and mobile devices.

Does your kid complain about pain when eating food or drinking beverages?

Check out for mouth sores and blisters! These are common symptoms of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

You can manage the symptoms of HFMD at home by:

👉🏼 drinking enough water for hydration 🥤
👉🏼 taking over-the-counter medications to ease fever and pain due to mouth sores 💊
👉🏼 getting enough sleep and rest 🛌💤

Bring your child to a health care provider for further treatment and care if:

✅the child is younger that 6 months
✅ the fever lasts longer than 3 days
✅ the symptoms do not improve in 10 days
✅ the symptoms are severe

Hand, Food and Mouth Disease (HFMD) spreads from person-to-person through droplets produced when speaking, sneezing, coughing, or even breathing. It can also spread through direct contact with open wounds from skin blisters or touching surfaces contaminated with f***s.

We can all work together to prevent the spread of HFMD. Keep our homes and schools safe and clean for our children. 🏡🏫

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a respiratory virus that can cause some children to become very sick and have trouble breathing.

If you are around an infant or young child, especially those born prematurely, are very young, have chronic lung or heart disease, or a weakened immune system, take extra care to protect them from RSV:

- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Keep your hands off your face
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Stay home when you are sick
