☢️ Did you know? ☢️
On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X-rays, marking the birth of Radiologic Science. 📸

The first-ever X-ray image was of his wife Anna Bertha Ludwig’s hand, revealing her wedding ring — a moment that changed medical imaging forever. 💍✨

Let’s honor this groundbreaking discovery that shaped the world of Radiologic Technology!

Is it true that MRI and Ultrasound have no radiation, making them safer than X-ray and CT scans?

Not exactly. All medical imaging uses some form of radiation, but the type matters. The key difference is between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

MRI and Ultrasound use non-ionizing radiation, which doesn’t have enough energy to remove electrons from atoms in the body. This makes them generally safer than X-ray and CT scans, which use ionizing radiation—capable of altering atomic structures and potentially causing harm with excessive exposure.

That said, all imaging methods are safe when used properly, with appropriate precautions and when the benefits outweigh the risks.

CARPAL BONE MNEMONICS

Sana Lahat Tayo Pumasa
Tegok Tayo Capag Hindi

Note:

Radiologic Technologist vs. X-ray Technologist: What’s the Difference?

Both Radiologic Technologists (RadTechs) and X-ray Technologists are licensed allied health professionals who use medical radiation to help diagnose and treat patients.

🩻 Radiologic Technologist (RadTech/Radiographer)
RadTechs are trained to operate a wide range of medical imaging equipment, including MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Radiation Therapy, and more. They complete a 4-year degree program and have a broader scope in diagnostic imaging and therapy.

📸 X-ray Technologist
X-ray Technologists are also Radiographers, focusing on general radiographic exams and fluoroscopic procedures. They complete a 3-year program and play a crucial role in frontline diagnostic imaging, particularly in emergency and routine care settings.

Both professions are essential to healthcare and work together to ensure accurate diagnosis and quality patient care. Their difference lies mainly in scope of practice and training duration—not in value.

What to Know About Having a General X-ray

1. Wear Plain Clothing
*Avoid clothes with glitter, ornaments, metal buttons, zippers, or hard prints.
These can cause image artifacts that may affect the accuracy of the scan.

2. You Can Request a Preferred Radiologic Technologist (RadTech)
*You may request a male or female RadTech based on your comfort. If your preferred staff is unavailable, you may bring one companion with you inside the X-ray room.

3. Female Patients of Childbearing Age
*The RadTech will ask for your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure to a potential pregnancy. This is a routine safety protocol, so please don’t be offended.

4. Pregnant Patients
*X-rays can be performed during pregnancy only with: Guidance from your OB-GYN and you must signed a waiver . This is only done when benefits outweigh the risks.

5. Chest X-rays for Female Patients
*You will be asked to remove your bra, especially if it has underwire. Metal or thick materials can interfere with the image. If there's no metal or obstruction, removal may not be necessary.
