Its maiden offering is SALAMAT SA NAZARENO, a TanglawSerye featuring stories of how the miraculous Black Nazarene of Quiapo touches and enlightens people, healing and uplifting them from their downtrodden lives. First episode is “BAILARINA,” a social drama set in the 50s focusing on a woman who dances in the cabaret for a living. Rita, the bailarina, is played by Mae dela Cruz, supported by Alma dela Cruz as the sacrificing mother Rosa, Tito Raj as the lazy father Tomas, Ryan Lopez as good-natured jeepney driver Tony, Janna Jose as dancer Elena, Ian Charles as problematic son Juanito, Pamela Moran as kid sister Nenita, with Matthew Rosales and Cristina Rosales as Juanito’s bullying playmates. Based on Alberto Florentino’s first prize Palanca award-winner “The Dancers,” screenwriter/ producer/ director is Mowelfund scholar Johnny Jose Cruz, with Jes Lopez as cinematographer/editor and Arnold Almario as production designer. The series will be shown in 12 parts of three minutes each consecutive day on YouTube starting in January 2016 to coincide with the Quiapo Fiesta. SALAMAT SA NAZARENO is dedicated to the eight million devotees who flock to Quiapo and participate in its traditional yearly procession.
