Story Time: when i was in college, i had my first taste of living independently.

my mom was working outside of manila and my brother was building his career. i was tasked to take care of myself: i learned how to cook, clean the house, do my laundry, budget, grocery shop, and pay for the bills.

i fluctuated between feeling empowered and overwhelmed, and also quite alone.

looking back though, i really wasn't all that alone. my best friends basically adopted me. they'd call me saying my seat at their dinner table was set and i was already late and invite me to whatever they were doing even though they knew the likely answer was, "no thanks." they treated me like family and i them.

so, when they decided to move away (how dare they), it really felt like home was being severed. i grieved the "death" of the sense of home ive known. and yet, it taught me that love never ends, it just grows.

migrating birds comes out this friday.
for all those who've left and for all those who've stayed. 🕊️
