Ito ang kwento ni Miss P.A.P., 45 years old. From 4 debilitating diseases to ZERO!
So, is lowcarb expensive? O mas mahal ang magkasakit?
She had PCOS. For 10 years, she was trying to conceive.
Imagine the emotional pain of waiting… hoping… praying… every single year.
Her OB, Doc Marivic Tan, then advised her to eat more meat.
When she became strict with LowCarb diet… something changed.
In 2013, after 10 long years… finally, nabuntis siya.
By 2014, she went back to a high-carb diet (normal lang, tao lang tayo).
Result?
Kailangan na ng insulin injections: 12–18 units, 2–3x a day.
At hindi lang yon.
She was also diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APAS).
So aside from insulin… kailangan din niya ng heparin injections.
Imagine that.
Multiple injections… every day.
Hindi lang physically draining… financially draining din.
Dahil sa taas ng sugar, napaaga ang delivery ng baby.
Eto ang mga maintenance meds all throughout her journey: Metformin, Phospholipids, Heparin, Insulin, Dydrogesterone, Progesterone, Isoxsuprine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B-Complex, Iron Supplement, Folic Acid, Multivitamins + Minerals + Taurine, Pred 10, Aspirin and Lactulose.
At sa panahong ito … tuluyan niyang nakalimutan ang lowcarb. Her final diagnoses were T2 Diabetes Mellitus, PCOS, APAS and Fatty Liver. Sabi pa nya, love cya ni Lord kasi binigay nalang halos lahat ng sakit.
Until 2023... TUDooooM! (Parang Netflix intro sound hehehe)
Nabasa niya ang mga testimonies online about LCIF (LowCarb and Intermittent Fasting). Nagkaroon cya ng "SPARK" at na-inspire na bumalik sa lifestyle.
After just 3 months of strict LCIF… bumalik siya sa endocrinologist.
Shocked ang doctor.
Malaki ang improvement ng labs niya.
She continued for 1 year… and achieved complete remission of diabetes (as assessed by her physician), with significant improvement in her other conditions. Goodbye to all maintenance meds! Imagine that! (Insert "Maalala mo kaya ..." soundtrack hehehe).
Then in 2024, she found my page. She was happy that she could finally speak with a lowcarb doctor who understands her situation perfectly and can safely assure her that everything is fine. She knows that a lowcarb doctor interprets labs differently from other doctors, and the goal is to decrease maintenance medications and possibly discontinue them.
The funny thing was...
Nakatira siya sa Daanbantayan, northern part of Cebu.
Nag travel siya ng 155 km for 4–6 hours, para lang makarating sa clinic ko sa Cebu South General Hospital in Naga, Cebu.
Okay, here's the kicker, let’s talk about the cost.
From 2012 to 2023:
Estimated total expenses: ₱700K+ for hospital bills, meds, and labs (based on Cebu costs, including insulin and heparin therapy)
Estimated monthly burden: ₱7,000+
At tandaan… teacher siya.
Hindi lang ito health problem.
Ito ay financial burden.
So let’s ask again:
Mas mahal ba ang meat, eggs or seafoods? O mas mahal ang maintenance meds, insulin, labs, at hospital bills?
Health is not expensive.
Sickness is.
