When a meltdown seems sudden, it usually isn't.

What looks likeโ€œoverreactingโ€ is often a nervous system that's been holding it together all day.
Too much noise. Too many demands. Too many transitions. Not enough rest. Not enough regulation.

The thing that set it off wasn't the cause โ€” it was the last straw.

Kids donโ€™t melt down because they want attention, control, or to be difficult.
They melt down because their brain has shifted into survival modeโ€ฆ and logic, language, and self-control are temporarily offline.

That's why consequences don't work in the moment.
That's why lectures make it worse.
That's why connection matters more than correction.
