In line with our commitment to safety and preparedness, the Therakit Occupational Therapy Clinic conducted an earthquake drill to enhance our readiness in the event of natural disasters.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐๐บ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐น ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ผ, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) Assistant of the Municipality of Buug, for generously sharing his expertise on earthquake preparedness.
Here's a clear, step-by-step guide to follow before, during, and after an earthquake.

1. Make a Family Plan:
- Identify safe spots in each room: under sturdy furniture, against inside walls.
- Create an emergency communication plan. Choose a meeting point.
- Teach your children how to โDrop, Cover, and Hold On.โ
2. Emergency Kit Essentials:
- Water (1 gallon per person per day for 3 days)
- Non-perishable food
- Flashlights and batteries
- First-aid kit
- Essential medications
- Extra clothes and blankets
- Important documents (IDs, insurance, etc.)
- Comfort items for kids (toys, books)
3. Secure Your Home:
- Anchor heavy furniture and appliances.
- Store breakables in low cabinets.
- Check gas lines and electrical wiring for safety.

If Youโre Indoors:
1. DROP to your hands and knees.
2. COVER your head and neck under a table or desk.
3. HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
If Thereโs No Shelter Nearby:
1. Use your arms to protect your head and neck.
2. Stay away from windows, mirrors, and heavy furniture.
If Youโre Outdoors:
1. Move away from buildings, trees, power lines, and streetlights.
2. Drop to the ground and wait for shaking to stop.
If Youโre in a Car:
1. Stop the car in a clear area.
2. Stay inside until the shaking stops.

Donโt run outside during shaking.
Stay calm and reassure your children.

- Listen to emergency broadcasts via battery-powered radio or phone.
- Follow updates from local authorities and your childโs school.
3. Reconnect and Reassure:
- Keep your family together and calm.
- Reconnect with your child's school or care facility as soon as it's safe.
- Allow children to talk about their feelings. Offer comfort and routine.
