Red Flags from Romantic Movies Edition
Thanks for voting! Now, let's take a look at two romantic movies that have red flags for days.
These were THE movies of romance back in the day. All of it romanticized and idolized.
Don't get me wrong, these are nostalgic faves. You get to a point though when you realize that maybe just maybe there were some red flags to consider.
Spoilers ahead!
***The Notebook "Red Flags"***
From start to finish the movie is sprinkled with red flag moments. From Noah pressuring Allie to go on a date to their semi-explosive physical fights and their intense connection leading to one of them cheating on their fiancé.
The message of the movie is clear, love prevails and although beautiful in its intention it's teaching those who have yet to realize the difference between disagreements and gaslighting, sincerity and love bombing and personal space and boundaries and ghosting.
The unhealed soul will confuse these things as love and potentially allow for manipulation and excuse narcissistic tendencies.
***Twilight "Red Flags"***
Boy, was I a huge fan of Twilight. I was Team Edward all the way. The way he seemed to protect her and had been waiting for her for many "lifetimes". It was all just so romantic.
Until you start to realize, wait a minute wasn't he 104 years old and Bella was only 17?
Didn't he kind of manipulate her into doing what he wanted by withholding what she asked for? Becoming a vampire if they married is one strong example.
Now, of course we can look at all this as his way of caring and loving her but that's where the age difference matters. He may have stayed 17 in his appearance but his life experiences made him much older.
Bella also has her moments jumping from Edward to Jake to Edward. The lines are blurred however and maybe we should understand Bella's confusion because again, she's only in her teens for the most part.
Nevertheless, these movies have their own loyal followings and I would probably still watch them again (just with eyes wide open this time!).
These are fine to watch but please think twice before emulating or allowing such behavior in your own personal lives.
