Breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, growing children and fathers alike will benefit from eating this all time favorite daily ulam: The Ginisang Munggo
- primarily due to the mineral all ingredients possess much of: CALCIUM! (and proteins, iron, phosphorus)
You see, calcium is an essential mineral that is crucial for the function of almost all parts of the body including the muscles, the nerves, the heart. It is also involved in hormone release (yes, producing breastmilk) , growth and development and your general muscle strength. With the help of Vitamin D (sunlight exposure, eating egg yolk, cod liver oil, some mushrooms), Calcium is absorbed and used efficiently in the body. And guess what foods contain calcium relatively more than a serving of cows milk? You guess it right, all that you can find in that bowl: Munggo, Malunggay and Hibi!
Not convinced?
1. A source from DOST-FNRI indicates a cup of boiled mung beans (Munggo) could even provide as much as 362 milligrams of calcium, almost half of the daily recommended intake for adults.
2. One hundred grams of fresh Moringa (Malunggay)leaves contain approximately 440 mg of calcium (4x the calcium in cow's milk).
3. One hundred grams of Hibi (dried tiny shrimps) has 489-786g of calcium. But PLEASE do not eat a lot of Hibi as it is very salty and very bad for your kidneys. Just put a little for taste.
It is so easy to cook. It is not that expensive. Moms may even be surprised with an extra boost in their milk supply! (of course with frequent breastfeeding). Cook ginisang munggo today! (or tomorrow for that matter) - Doc Joanne
