Breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, growing children and fathers alike will benefit from eating this all time favorite daily ulam: The Ginisang Munggo
- primarily due to the mineral all ingredients possess much of: CALCIUM! (and proteins, iron, phosphorus)

You see, calcium is an essential mineral that is crucial for the function of almost all parts of the body including the muscles, the nerves, the heart. It is also involved in hormone release (yes, producing breastmilk) , growth and development and your general muscle strength. With the help of Vitamin D (sunlight exposure, eating egg yolk, cod liver oil, some mushrooms), Calcium is absorbed and used efficiently in the body. And guess what foods contain calcium relatively more than a serving of cows milk? You guess it right, all that you can find in that bowl: Munggo, Malunggay and Hibi!

Not convinced?
1. A source from DOST-FNRI indicates a cup of boiled mung beans (Munggo) could even provide as much as 362 milligrams of calcium, almost half of the daily recommended intake for adults.
2. One hundred grams of fresh Moringa (Malunggay)leaves contain approximately 440 mg of calcium (4x the calcium in cow's milk).
3. One hundred grams of Hibi (dried tiny shrimps) has 489-786g of calcium. But PLEASE do not eat a lot of Hibi as it is very salty and very bad for your kidneys. Just put a little for taste.

It is so easy to cook. It is not that expensive. Moms may even be surprised with an extra boost in their milk supply! (of course with frequent breastfeeding). Cook ginisang munggo today! (or tomorrow for that matter) - Doc Joanne

Exactly the reason why explicit marketing of formula milk is against the Philippine Milk code. Not everybody needs formula milk and not even follow on formula :( The mother should have been educated and empowered to leave expressed breastmilk or the community may have helped give expressed breastmilk. I was able to visit a community in Tabuk Kalinga wherein more than 90% of the mothers were breastfeeding. I'm sure that with proper education and compliance to the milk code, these unfortunate incidents could be avoided.

He was arrested for stealing milk.
Not electronics. Not cash.
Milk. For a baby who was crying at home.

Friends, this happened in Tabuk City, Kalinga, on October 31, 2025. A single father was caught at Talavera Supermarket after taking one box of Enfamil infant milk, weighing 1.725 kilograms, without paying. A supermarket worker stopped him. Police were called. Protocol took over.

By the book, it was theft.

At the station, the story surfaced. The man had lost his construction job after a project ended. No income. No safety net. His wife had left. He was raising an infant alone. The milk wasn’t for resale. It wasn’t reckless. It was survival.

That’s when the story shifted.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jack E. Angog, the station commander and a father himself, listened. And instead of letting the system grind forward, he stepped in. He paid for the milk out of his own pocket. The father was released. No charges. No jail. Just assistance instead of a record.

The law did its job by stopping a crime.
Humanity did its job by asking why it happened.

This wasn’t about excusing wrongdoing.
It was about understanding desperation.

Because sometimes justice isn’t louder punishment.
Sometimes it’s knowing when mercy keeps a family from breaking.
