Our gratitude to PMWC President Zaalica Yusoph, Global UNAP President Roderick Cruz, and Dr. Darwin J. Manubag, City Administrator of Iligan City, who received the UN Flag on behalf of Hon. Mayor Frederick Siao, as the Ethnic Center in Iligan City was formally recognized as one of the Global UNAP Peace Centers in Mindanao, symbolizing peace, unity, and resilience.

đź’  The morning session at Iligan City Hall featured the endorsement of the UN Flag and reaffirmed the mission of peace and unity under the UN 80th Founding Anniversary Celebration, highlighting partnerships aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

đź’  In the afternoon, the UNAP delegation met with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) of Iligan, led by Capt. Joebert Tolentino, to strengthen collaboration on community preparedness, disaster response, and peace initiatives.

💠 The day concluded with the Cervical Cancer and HPV Awareness and Training Program conducted by CerviQ, led by Dr. Jesus Randy “Bogs” Rivera, empowering local health workers through education on HPV prevention, cervical screening, and the use of innovative tools like the SPECULOSCOPE, developed with DOST-ASTI.

Two-Day Event in Marawi City

United Nations 80th Founding Anniversary Celebration and Peace Center Launch

The two-day event in Marawi City, held on October 14 and 15, was a resounding success, a celebration carried out for the benefit and empowerment of the people of Marawi City, promoting health awareness, peace advocacy, and community resilience.

This meaningful event was spearheaded by the remarkable leadership of UNAP President Mindanao Chapter Bai Norhata Alonto, whose dedication, vision, and commitment made this historic gathering possible. Her tireless efforts in uniting organizations, mobilizing communities, and championing the values of peace and empowerment truly made her the heart and driving force of the two-day celebration.

We also extend our deep appreciation to the President of the Philippine Muslim Women Council (PMWC), Zaalica Yusoph, for her steadfast support and active participation throughout the event, along with the PMWC board members and members for their unwavering dedication.

A heartfelt thank you as well to Global UNAP President Roderick Cruz for his presence, support, and leadership, which further strengthened the partnership and purpose of this United Nations milestone celebration.

Event Highlights

The Two-Day Event in Marawi City celebrated the United Nations' 80th Founding Anniversary, highlighted by the launching of the Global UNAP Peace Center at Ground Zero, alongside major activities such as the Cervical Cancer and HPV Awareness and Training, and the Rescue and Disaster Response Training Program.

Day 1: Health Awareness and Cervical Cancer Prevention

Day 1 focused on Cervical Cancer and HPV Awareness and Training, conducted by CerviQ: End Cervical Cancer Philippines Organization Inc., in partnership with LGU Marawi through the City Health Office.

The CerviQ team, led by Founder and CEO Dr. Jesus Randy “Bogs” Rivera, trained nurses, midwives, and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) on cervical screening and HPV prevention, emphasizing the importance of early detection and vaccination.

Participants were also introduced to the SPECULOSCOPE, an innovative cervical screening technology developed through the CerviQ and DOST-ASTI partnership, which enables faster, more efficient, and accessible screening. The hands-on training further enhanced participants’ capacity to implement local cervical cancer prevention programs.

Day 2: Peace, Recognition, and Empowerment

Day 2 marked the arrival of Global UNAP President Roderick Cruz and Capt. Joebert Tolentino, who led the continuation of the United Nations 80th Founding Anniversary celebration together with local leaders and partner organizations.

The morning program at the Municipality of Marawi featured a Recognition Award presented to Hon. Vice Mayor Majul Gandamra for his exemplary leadership and dedicated service to the people of Marawi City.

At 1:00 PM, the Awarding of the UNAP Medal and UN Flag at Ground Zero took place, officially designating the site as one of the Global UNAP Peace Centers in Mindanao — a lasting symbol of peace, unity, and resilience for the people of Marawi. The ceremony was graced by Hon. Mayor Shariff Zain Gandamra, city officials, peace advocates, and partner organizations.

At 3:00 PM, the Rescue and Disaster Response Training Program, conducted by Capt. Joebert Tolentino equipped participants with vital knowledge and practical skills in emergency preparedness, search and rescue, and crisis management — empowering the Marawi community to respond effectively during emergencies.

This two-day event stands as a powerful testament to the leadership and dedication of UNAP Mindanao Chapter President Bai Norhata Alonto, whose unwavering passion continues to inspire unity, empowerment, and peacebuilding across Mindanao and the Philippines.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Global UNAP, UNAP Mindanao Chapter, Philippine Muslim Women Council (PMWC), LGU Marawi, and the City Health Office for making this event possible.

Bacolod City, Philippines — October 27–29, 2025.
The End Cervical Cancer Philippines Organization Inc. (CerviQ), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI), proudly joins the Handa Pilipinas 2025: Visayas Leg, a national initiative highlighting science, technology, and innovation for disaster resilience and sustainable development.

This year’s event, themed “Padayon Visayas: STI for Resilient, United, and Sustainable Visayas,” gathers leaders, scientists, innovators, educators, and advocates from across the country to explore how science and technology can safeguard lives and communities.

CERV.AI: Philippine Innovation for Women’s Health
Representing the collaborative efforts of CerviQ and DOST-ASTI, Dr. Jesus Randy “Bogs” Rivera, Founder and President of End Cervical Cancer Philippines Organization Inc., will present CERV.AI — a groundbreaking project that marks a milestone in Philippine innovation and women’s health care.

CERV.AI stands as the first Artificial Intelligence system for cervical cancer screening developed in the Philippines. It aims to harness local research, digital imaging, and data science to enhance early detection and improve access to life-saving screening services for Filipino women.

Through the creation of the Philippine Cervical Image Bank, CERV.AI will train AI algorithms using thousands of labeled cervical images collected from communities nationwide. These images, captured through locally manufactured speculoscopes (CerviScope) and paired with High-Risk HPV DNA test results, will serve as the foundation for an AI-driven diagnostic support tool — built by Filipinos, for Filipinas.

The project embodies how science, technology, and compassion can converge to address one of the most preventable yet deadly diseases affecting women today.

Honored to be Recognized for Advancing UN SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals 🌍

Grateful to the Global United Nations Association of the Philippines (Global UNAP) for recognizing our work at End Cervical Cancer Philippines Organization Inc. (ECCPOI) during the celebration of “80 Years of Great Women Leadership and UN Legacy in the Philippines” held at the historic Mira Nila Mansion.

This recognition for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals reaffirms our belief that eliminating cervical cancer in the Philippines is only possible through collaboration and shared purpose — among government, private sector, civic organizations, and the medical community.

My heartfelt thanks to President Ric Cruz, Prof. Alice Lucas, and Mr. Tony Cama for their inspiring leadership and for championing partnerships that bring peace, progress, and better health to all. Together, we build a future where no woman dies of a preventable disease. đź’™
