Q***r Rights are Human Rights!
This International Human Rights Day, we emphasize that the fight for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community is a fight for our basic human rightsโ the right to live free from discrimination, the right to security and protection against SOGIESC-based violence, and the right to access basic social-services that SHOULD be transformative and gender sensitive.
However, with the long overdue passage of the SOGIESC Equality Bill, the community are pushed into the margins of invisibilization, exclusion, and injustice, that is further amplified by systemic inequalities. This continuous delay subjects us to be vulnerable from inhumane acts of violence and discrimination in our day-to-day lives.
We assert that in face of these inequalities and injustices that is now further exacerbated by corruption, accountability should also take form in recognizing that the communityโs vulnerability is deepened and critical in state needing for an urgent call for protection. So as long as there is no recognition of our rights, justice is denied and injustices will prevail.
