[PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS IN LIFTING]

"Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve"

I've been told way before by my sports science friends that I have a psychological barrier when using heavier weights. 🏋️‍♀️

This is exhibit A.
Same weight (~60kg/~133 lbs)
One where I think I can't do it
One where I think my spotter was helping me even though he wasn't

I failed every rep where I was alone and finished every rep where I had a spotter behind me.

Psychological barriers are one of the most difficult to overcome because one should have confidence, know what they fear, and reverse it with visualizations & affirmations. Don't be conscious of your environment & focus on yourself & on what you're doing. And most importantly, don't be afraid to fail, because you'll learn from it. Just don't forget about progressive overload, proper technique, recovery, & nutrition.

Based on my movement in the video, I can't deny that I need to work on my core strength. That's one of the many reasons why you shouldn't be ashamed of filming yourself because it's a way of knowing where you need to improve on. 😉

Elevated Pistol Squat || Pistol Squat

Even coaches have things to improve on! 💁🏿‍♀️

This isn't the whole picture of the progress, but these two videos were taken 4 mos apart.

I started exercising regularly again in August 2020. I can't even do 1 proper push-up back then. And now I can do at least 10 foot elevated push-ups!

Fitness isn't even at the top of my priority list. Most of my time is spent on my board review(which got postponed 3 TIMES!), reading research articles, & playing video games 😝. But I still make sure to have time to work out.

Just wanted to share & remind everyone that fitness is a journey & a lifestyle. You won't get your desired results in 1 month. It's not going to be linear either. You'll definitely hit dead-ends, detours, or roadblocks along the way. The important thing is that you don't give up & keep working on yourself. Do it at your own pace. ✨

It really hurts. 🥺 Pero pag paulit ulit mawawalan ka na daw ng pake HAHAHA. 😝

Most demerits are avoidable. You can breeze through internship without getting demerits! Always remember these simple tips:

1. Presence of mind!
2. Familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations especially if they use a locator board.
3. Always ask your staff if you need any clarifications
4. Don't be late! HAHAHA
5. Be cooperative with your co-interns! It's a team effort to avoid mass demerits.

[RED FLAG SIGNS OF LOW BACK PAIN]

Low back pain is something almost everyone gets to experience at some point in their lives. But when is it considered as something serious that warrants immediate medical attention?

Red flags are risk factors, signs, or symptoms that could indicate a serious underlying pathology such as cauda equina syndrome & spinal tumor. There are more red flags of back pain, but the ones listed are some of the common ones encountered.

[FRAUD & PREDATORY RESEARCH]

Whether you're a healthcare worker, a medical student, or an ordinary citizen, it pays to be at least aware that dubious research publications and papers exist. These promote pseudoscience as well as the growing confusion & distrust from actual science & experts. However, the metrics in use are not fool-proof.

A rule of thumb is that a single research study radically deviating from the general knowledge & guidelines is not enough to change practice. Although, medical reversals do happen when high-quality pieces of evidence eventually change the previous knowledge or practices.

Know your scope & limitations! Let us remember that “all registered dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians.”

Let's protect the consumers & the RND profession.
Get nutritional advice from professionals only. Consult your RND & physician regarding nutritional & dietary concerns especially if you have a medical condition because interprofessional collaboration is a thing. 🤝🏿 🤩

If anyone is caught giving or charging for diet plans & prescriptions without a license, they can be reported to the PRC Board of Nutritionists & Dieticians. If caught guilty, they will be fined not less than PHP300,000.00 and/or imprisonment of not less than 6 months, at the discretion of the court.
