HOW TO PUSH : DURING DELIVERY
1. FOLLOW YOUR URGE:
Wait for the peak of the contraction to feel the natural urge to push.
2. USE YOUR CORE MUSCLES:
Relax your body, tuck your chin to your chest, and bear down using your abdominal muscles, similar to having a bowel movement.
3. BREATHE THROUGH YOUR PUSHES:
Instead of holding your breath, breathe through the push to facilitate flexibility in the pelvic floor.
4. DIRECT ENERGY DOWNWARDS:
Focus your pushing effort downward, into your pelvis and birth canal, not by straining your face or upper body.
5. USE YOUR VOICE:
Making low-pitched sounds or humming while you push can help your pelvic floor relax, making it easier for the baby to pass through.
Tips for an Easier Push
Change Positions: Switch positions frequently (e.g., upright positions) every 30 minutes or so.
Stay Focused: Maintain focus on your body's signals rather than getting frantic.
Support Your Body: You can reach down to hold your thighs or lower legs to help leverage your upper body strength for the push.
