UERM Med Kom (Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Medisina Para sa Komunidad) is a student-led socio-civic organization in the UERM College of Medicine that envisions a body of medical students willing and able to serve medically-deprived communities. For a relatively young organization, its previous community immersion activities have reached as far as Cagayan Valley, Benguet, Bulacan, Rizal Province, Quezon Province, Romblon, Mindoro Oriental, & Sorsogon. Founded in 2013 by seven medical students (Victoria Franisca Bautista, Aldrin John Almario, Jeremy Philip Ang, Precious Liz Bañag, Leah Anne Bollos, Christine Joanne Del Prado & Karl Henri Altabano), UERM Med Kom started with twenty members. With the guidance from the UP College of Medicine's Regionalization Organization (RSO) and former DOH Secretary Dr. Jaime Galvez-Tan, it was able to lead the UERM College of Medicine in initiating and realizing sustainable grassroots-level community development projects. Since its establishment, UERM Med Kom continues to create avenues that will shed light to the nature and magnitude of health needs in Filipino communities and allow medical students to become actively involved in the endeavor of reaching-out to medicall-deprived communities while instilling a heart of service.
