Remembering the Life and Strength of Nanay Flor

Nanay Flor will always be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, and a woman of quiet strength and courage. Through the many challenges she faced in her illness, she continued to show remarkable resilience, faith, and love for her family. Her journey was a reflection of a mother’s enduring strength always fighting, always caring, and always holding on to the people she loved the most.

The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital – Department of Family & Community Medicine Palliative & Hospice Team extends our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the family of Nanay Flor.

It was an honor for the SCPH Palliative and Hospice Care Team to walk alongside Nanay Flor and her family during this time. In palliative and hospice care, we are reminded that caring goes beyond the patient, it embraces the family, the shared memories, and the love that surrounds each moment.

We would also like to sincerely thank Ma’am Daisy, Sir Joseph, and the entire family for your trust, cooperation, and for welcoming our team into your home. Your dedication, compassion, and love for Nanay Flor were truly inspiring.

-Honoring 101 Years of Love and Legacy-

The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital Department of Family & Community Medicine-Palliative & Hospice Team extends our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the family of Nanay Petra, as we remember and give thanks for her 101 beautiful years of life.

Nanay Petra lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family. For more than a century, she was a wonderful mother, a cherished grandmother, and a source of warmth and guidance to those around her. Her gentle presence and loving heart created a home filled with care, kindness, and treasured memories that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

We are also deeply grateful to Nanay Conchita, Nanay Patricia, Ma’am Maricris, and the entire family for warmly welcoming the SCPH Palliative & Hospice Team into your home and allowing us to be part of Nanay Petra’s care. Your love, unity, and dedication in caring for her were truly inspiring.

As we remember Nanay Petra, we celebrate a life well lived and the 101 years of love, family, and memories she shared with all of you.

Si Nanay Petra ay namuhay nang puno ng pagmamahal, pananampalataya, at pag-aaruga sa kanyang pamilya. Sa loob ng mahigit isang siglo, siya ay naging mapagmahal na ina, butihing lola, at gabay ng kanyang pamilya.

The Department of Health, in partnership with local government units, is implementing the Measles–Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), or “𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐝𝐚𝐬” campaign, in response to the recent increase in measles cases at the provincial, regional, and national levels. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, particularly among young children. 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to prevent outbreaks, protect vulnerable populations, and reduce further transmission within our communities.

The Office of the Provincial Health Officer (OPHO) is aware of the circulating Facebook post regarding an alleged adverse event following immunization (AEFI) death reportedly linked to the MR-SIA in a neighboring province. We acknowledge the public’s concerns and extend our sincere sympathy to the family involved. All reported adverse events following immunization are carefully investigated and validated by the Department of Health and appropriate health authorities to determine their true cause.

We strongly reassure the public that 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐬–𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞, protecting millions of children from measles, rubella, and their serious complications. These vaccines undergo strict safety screening and are continuously monitored through established surveillance systems.

The OPHO further assures parents and caregivers that health workers implementing the MR-SIA are properly trained, fully capable, and well prepared to monitor, recognize, and promptly manage any adverse events following immunization. Vaccination teams strictly adhere to standard safety protocols and are equipped to provide appropriate medical care when necessary.

The public is reminded that in any eventuality following vaccination—particularly if symptoms are unusual, persistent, or concerning—immediate consultation with the nearest health facility or a qualified health professional is strongly advised to ensure timely assessment and management.

The OPHO urges the public to verify information through official and reliable sources and to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading content that may cause unnecessary fear and confusion. The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital Department of Family and Community Medicine Hospice and Palliative Team mourns the passing of Ma’am Luz Tamayo-Banggoc Butihen.

There is a time for everything, as the Scripture reminds us: “There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” Today, we weep, but we also celebrate a life full of love, devotion, and service.

Ma’am Luz was a teacher at heart—guiding, encouraging, and inspiring countless young minds. At home, she was the pillar of her family, a devoted mother of seven, whose patience, care, and unwavering love shaped her children’s lives in ways words can never fully capture. She was a faithful wife, deeply loved by her late husband, and their bond is now reunited in God’s embrace.
Her life was one of quiet sacrifice, of love given freely and generously. Though we mourn her loss, we trust that she rests now in peace, in the hands of the One who holds every life, every joy, every tear.

May we honor her memory by carrying forward her love, her faith, and her kindness in our own lives.
