We all know that salt may cause problems in our dogs. As dog owners and advocates of balanced nutrition, we can actually prevent this problem.
Let's do the math, compute how much dogfood you are giving your dogs on a daily basis. Again, only 0.3% of Na and 0.45% of Cl is the recommended intake on a per kg of dogfood.
If you are feeding raw meat, it doesn't mean you're safe. Raw meat also contains small amounts of Na. This can add salt to dog food if fed on top. But when you are feeding pure raw meat, your dog may also experience lack of NaCl to balance it's diet.
Adding rice on your dogs' food to replace certain amount of dog food can help lessen salt intake however, it also contributes a small amount of Na because some varieties of rice contain Na.
Imagine if you are also giving dog treats every so often!
Best way to keep your dogs safe out of the dangers of excess salt intake is flush with water.
However, if there signs of salt poisoning already, consult a veterinarian. Signs are diarrhea, vomiting and seizures.
