“Take Courage, It Is I” — Matthew 14:27
When the storm was raging on the sea, the disciples were afraid.
The wind was strong, the waves were crashing, and the boat was being tossed back and forth.
In the middle of that storm, Jesus came walking toward them on the water. But instead of comfort, the disciples first felt fear.
They thought they were seeing a ghost.
Then Jesus spoke these simple but powerful words: “Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Peter answered, “Lord, if it is really you, tell me to come to you on the water.”
Jesus said, “Come.”
Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water toward Jesus.
For a moment, the impossible became possible.
But when Peter looked at the wind and the waves around him, fear entered his heart.
He began to sink and cried out: “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.
Many people today are like Peter in that storm.
Life feels overwhelming.
The winds of problems are strong.
The waves of anxiety, failure, and uncertainty keep crashing around them.
But the lesson of this story is clear:
When Peter looked at the storm, he began to sink.
When he looked at Jesus, he walked on water.
The storms of life will always be there.
Fear will try to overwhelm you.
Doubts will whisper that you cannot make it.
But the voice of Christ still speaks today:
“Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
If you keep your eyes on the storm, you will sink in fear.
But if you keep your eyes on Christ, even the impossible becomes possible.
No matter how strong the storm is, Jesus is stronger.
So when life feels like it is sinking beneath you, remember Peter’s prayer: “Lord, save me.”
And just like that day on the water,
Jesus will reach out His hand.
