SCOLIOSIS AWARENESS
Scoliosis is a condition of the spine causing it to be twisted or rotated instead of a straight line. This is usually confirmed through physical examination and imaging studies. Early signs of scoliosis include the head appears to be off-center, one shoulder seems higher than the other, ribcage appears uneven, the shirt doesn’t seem to fit correctly, one leg seems shorter than the others. Symptoms of scoliosis may include fatigability, shortness of breath, palpitations, decreased endurance, and pain. Scoliosis can be congenital, degenerative, syndromic, neuromuscular, functional, and idiopathic. Conservative management of Scoliosis includes physical modalities such as HMP, TENS, and Ultrasound; physical therapy to correct the muscular imbalance, and bracing. Scoliosis may require long-term multidisciplinary Rehabilitation care with the goal of improving functional abilities and enhancing quality of life of patients.
