Box breathing, also known as square breathing, is a simple, effective breathing technique that offers several benefits. This is an easy one for kids to remember too, for whenever they are feeling a little overwhelmed 🙂‍↔️

1. Reduces Stress and Anxiety - By promoting a state of calm and relaxation, box breathing helps manage stress and anxiety. The slow, deliberate breaths can help lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone.

2. Enhances Focus and Concentration: This technique can improve mental clarity and concentration.

3. Improves Emotional Regulation: Regular practice of box breathing can lead to better emotional regulation and better moods.

4. Supports Respiratory Health: By encouraging deep, full breaths, box breathing can improve lung capacity and efficiency.

5. Promotes Better Sleep: Practicing box breathing before bedtime can help improve sleep quality. The relaxation response it triggers can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

6. Lowers Blood Pressure: By inducing a state of relaxation, box breathing can help lower blood pressure.

Try introducing box breathing into your daily routine to enhance both physical and mental well-being 🩵

I’ve been obsessed with this delicious salad recently, enjoying it for lunch nearly every day 😋

A tasty Thai twist, it’s fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour.
The perfect accompaniment to add to your main meal, or just enjoy its own. Top with avocado, a piece of steamed fish/salmon, or grilled chicken.

Don’t be put off by the long list of ingredients, this large serving size can be portioned and kept in the fridge for the week ahead. It’s so delicious, you won’t be disappointed 😍

Ingredients:
• 1/2 purple cabbage
• 1/2 white cabbage
• 3 carrots
• 3 stalks of celery
• 2 spring onions
• 1 red pepper
• Small bunch of coriander
• 1 cup of edamame beans

Finely chop all ingredients, add the edamame beans. Combine into a large serving bowl.

Dressing:
• 3 tbsp organic peanut butter
• 2 tbsp Japanese rice vinegar
• Juice of 1-2 fresh limes
• 3 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp GF soy sauce
• 2 tbsp honey
• 1 tbsp brown sugar (or more honey as substitute)
• 2 garlic cloves
• 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peel with teaspoon
• Sprinkle of salt & pepper
• Small handful of coriander

Combine all dressing ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth.

If you’re ready to serve, drizzle the dressing over the top, otherwise, serve on the side (or keep separate in the fridge) to avoid the salad getting soggy.

Swipe ⬅️ to see the ingredients. I’d love to know if you try it!

Enjoy x

On my way to a circuit training instructor course today and thought it was time to check-in…
I’ve been quiet online, but busy in the background completing my Level 2 Gym Instructor, Level 2 Mental Health & Well-being, and Level 3 Personal Trainer qualifications.

These past few months I have gained so much knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes, learning more about our incredible bodies and how they keep us alive. Anatomy & physiology blew my mind… excuse me, but who came up with the names for our muscles and bones? They are very hard to remember! 😅

I’m looking forward to being professionally qualified and this complementing my nutrition qualification, providing a more holistic approach for my clients in mind, body, and nutrition.

With anything new, it takes practice, patience, and persistence. Remember it’s never too late to start and to try something new 💙

My aim is to empower women of all ages to live a life of wellness, where they can build confidence to achieve their health goals and make positive changes that can last a lifetime.

Women are made up of so many wonderful qualities, yet our bodies also come with complicated things too; monthly cycles, pre & post-natal hormones, pre-menopause, and menopause. We are forever changing, and by building a strong foundation, you are giving yourself the best chance to overcome any of these changes.

As your health coach, we will focus on:

MINDSET

We will discover and unravel any roadblocks that may be holding you back from achieving your goals. We will focus on building your confidence and put an achievable plan in place to start putting yourself first. We will work on your self-care and practices to deal with stressors and everyday challenges.

BODY

You will feel more confident in your own skin by learning to love your body and everything it does for you. Building strength is the most important practice for women; it supports hormonal changes, our metabolic rate, prevents osteoporosis, and slows down aging. We will explore exercises and activities that you enjoy, focusing on what makes you feel good.

NUTRITION

I will coach you through the key fundamentals of healthy nutrition, whilst still being able to enjoy the things you love. No fad diets, starving yourself, shakes, or pills. Just pure healthy food that gives you more energy, better skin, and a healthy gut.

Hello everyone 👋🏼
A little update from You First Nutrition … we are now You First Well-being.
I have been working on providing a more holistic approach to my coaching - with a key focus on our overall well-being, including the mindset, the body, and our nutrition.

It’s not just the food we eat that affects our health, but all factors of our daily lives. Our physical activity, relationships, careers, sleep, and stress management. When these are healthy and balanced, what we eat becomes secondary.

In the midst of our daily lives, it’s important to find that time for you, whether it’s just a few minutes a day, putting you first will filter into other areas of your life and make a noticeable difference. Sometimes we might need that little extra push and for someone to encourage us along the way.

What is involved in health coaching?

I don’t believe in making any sudden or drastic changes - whilst this can work for some people, they often don’t last, and you end up back at square one feeling deflated. With me, you will learn to love making smaller, healthier choices over time, move your body more, regain your energy, sleep better, and improve your overall mindset.

After a consultation, a well-being plan will be put together, tailored just for you. We will set sustainable goals together and you will have all the support you need to achieve them. These can be changes that will last a lifetime, when you commit to them.

Your goal/s could be as little or as big as you like - often, it is the most subtle changes that can have the biggest impact.
