Spondylolisthesis is a condition where one of the bones in your spine (e.g., vertebra) slips out of its normal position and moves forward or backward over the bone below it. In mild cases, it may cause no symptoms, but in more severe cases, it can press on your spinal nerves, leading to significant discomfort in the back and extremities. It usually happens in the lower back (lumbar spine), though it can occur in other parts of the spine too.
Common causes of Spondylolisthesis include:
1. Degenerative changes from aging (wear and tear).
2. Injury or trauma.
3. Overuse or stress (in athletes or people who do a lot of heavy lifting).
4. Congenital conditions (you were born with it).
Treatment can range from physical therapy to surgery, depending on how much the vertebrae have slipped and the severity of symptoms.
