A 39-year-old patient presented with a rapid onset of severe imbalance, hand clumsiness, and weakness on his left side.

Cervical Myelopathy caused by the rare disorder OPLL (Ossified Posterior Longitudinal Ligament). This is where a spinal ligament turns into bone, literally "choking" the spinal cord.
We performed urgent surgery to relieve the pressure and "unroof" the spinal cord.

With aggressive physical therapy, he regained his balance, strength, and coordination within weeks! Early intervention was critical.

💡That’s a great question!
Spine surgeons safely place screws into your spinal bones using:

• Detailed anatomical planning of your available preoperative imaging
• Real-time imaging guidance and navigation technology
• Intraoperative monitoring of your spinal cord and nerves

Sounds like a lot? Don’t you worry! Modern spine surgery has very low rates of screw misplacement (typically

💡We know it can be frustrating to hear different opinions on your spinal disease. But you have to understand that your doctors might have different levels of experience or training in particular areas of spine surgery. Not only that, some doctors might lean towards evidence-based, conservative treatments (like physical therapy, rest, and pain management), while others may take a more aggressive approach, recommending surgery if they believe the problem could worsen.

💊Medicine is also a field that evolves constantly, and new research, technological advances, or emerging surgical techniques might influence one doctor to recommend something that another doctor, perhaps less up-to-date, might not suggest.

🗒️Ultimately, the way to navigate this is to ASK YOUR DOCTOR QUESTIONS to understand why they recommend a specific treatment and how they arrived at that conclusion. It is up to you, and no one else, to find the approach that works best for your unique situation, balancing both your quality of life and the long-term health of your spine

Spondylolisthesis is a condition where one of the bones in your spine (e.g., vertebra) slips out of its normal position and moves forward or backward over the bone below it. In mild cases, it may cause no symptoms, but in more severe cases, it can press on your spinal nerves, leading to significant discomfort in the back and extremities. It usually happens in the lower back (lumbar spine), though it can occur in other parts of the spine too.

Common causes of Spondylolisthesis include:
1. Degenerative changes from aging (wear and tear).
2. Injury or trauma.
3. Overuse or stress (in athletes or people who do a lot of heavy lifting).
4. Congenital conditions (you were born with it).

Treatment can range from physical therapy to surgery, depending on how much the vertebrae have slipped and the severity of symptoms.

Regular walking is one of the best low-impact exercises for your spine. It strengthens the core muscles that support your back and helps maintain healthy spinal discs.

A brisk 20-minute walk a day can make a big difference in preventing back pain. We even recommend walking as rehabilitation after surgery! The spine was designed to move - so move it or lose it!
