🩺🚑 BRINGING HEALTHCARE CLOSER TO THE COMMUNITY 🚑🩺

On December 4, 2025, the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), through its committed Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit, successfully conducted a Medical and Surgical Outreach Mission in Langilan District, Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Led by Dr. Justin M. Villacorta and Nurse Maritess Estrelloso, together with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, medical technologists, and support staff, the mission delivered a wide range of free healthcare services to the community, ensuring that essential medical care reached those who needed it most.

✨ Services provided included:
🩺 Medical consultations for Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, OBGYNE, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Radiology
🔪 Minor surgical procedures such as circumcision and excision
👶 Prenatal check-ups and women’s health services (Pap smear, family planning)
👁️ Eye screening for cataract and pterygium, plus distribution of reading glasses
🧪 Laboratory services (CBC, urinalysis, RBS)
🖥️ Ultrasound services (pregnancy, abdomen, prostate, KUB)
💊 Free medicines for qualified patients

📊 In total, over a hundred beneficiaries were served across consultations, surgical care, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging, making a meaningful impact on community health and wellness.

🤝 This outreach was made possible through the strong support and collaboration of the Local Government Unit of Langilan District, Gupitan, through the Office of Congressman De Carlo Uy, whose assistance in logistics, venue preparation, manpower, and community coordination ensured the mission’s successful implementation.

💙 While operational challenges such as patient flow and crowd control were noted, the mission reaffirmed DRMC’s experience, resilience, and unwavering commitment to service. More importantly, it highlighted the value of continuous collaboration, improved coordination, and shared responsibility between healthcare institutions and local partners.

🌱 DRMC remains steadfast in its mission to bridge healthcare gaps, deliver compassionate service, and strengthen community health, one outreach at a time.

From November 18 to 28, 2025, the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), through its dedicated medical mission team, successfully conducted a 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 across key localities in Davao del Norte - RHU Kapalong, RHU New Corella, CHO Panabo, and the Provincial Capitol in Tagum City.

Led by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗖𝘇𝗮𝗿 𝗔. 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀, and with the invaluable participation of DRMC General Surgery residents, the mission focused on 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗗𝗥𝗘) and 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀, reaching a total of 𝟭𝟳𝟭 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Each activity combined medical consultation with patient education, emphasizing early detection, awareness, and the importance of seeking timely medical care.

This mission was made possible through strong inter-agency collaboration with the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲, under the leadership of 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮, and partner LGUs. Their support in logistics, transportation, venue preparation, information dissemination, manpower augmentation, and peace-and-order services ensured the smooth and safe conduct of each outreach activity.

Beyond the numbers, this outreach reaffirmed DRMC’s long-standing commitment to bringing essential healthcare services closer to communities, especially to those who may otherwise have limited access to specialized care. While challenges such as low patient turnout in some areas were observed, the overall mission was deemed a success, highlighting both the readiness of the medical team and the continuing need for regular, well-coordinated outreach programs.

DRMC remains steadfast in its mission to bridge healthcare gaps through sustained partnerships, dedicated medical mission teams, and community-centered service, because quality healthcare should always reach where it is needed most.

The 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 (HEDMU) successfully conducted its 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 (PIR) at D’Luxe Resort, Mati City. 🏖️📊

The activity brought together DRMC HEDMU, Program Managers, Doctors, Nurses, and Support Staff to review accomplishments, assess challenges, identify gaps, and plan stronger actions for 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 and 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

A productive and meaningful engagement that strengthened coordination, teamwork, and commitment toward better readiness and improved service delivery 🚑🤝

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐬

After their 14-day mission in the Negros Island Region, the four members of the DRMC Health Emergency Response Team (HERTs) underwent a structured psychosocial debriefing session to ensure their well-being following the physical, mental, and emotional demands of deployment.

The activity aimed to help the team:
💠 Process their experiences
💠 Manage stress and decompress
💠 Strengthen emotional resilience
💠 Reinforce healthy coping and self-care practices

Facilitated by HEDMU MHPSS Coordinator, Dr. Kristi Anjelo A. Bayotas, the session provided a safe and supportive space where responders could openly share their stories, express their emotions, and reflect on the challenges they faced in the field.

DRMC-HEDMU remains committed not only to serving communities but also to supporting the well-being of our healthcare responders, the very people who continually rise to serve others in times of need.

The Davao Regional Medical Center – Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit (DRMC-HEDMU) continues its strong commitment to advancing healthcare emergency preparedness through the Mass Casualty Management Responders Training.

This week-long training gathered nurses, doctors, and response teams from Davao Regional Medical Center, Zamboanga City Medical Center, and the Southern Philippines Medical Center. Also participating were representatives from DDNH Kapalong Zone, DDNH IGACOS Zone, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, Davao Center for Health Development (DOH-DCHD), and the City Health Office.

Throughout the activity, participants engaged in collaborative exercises and hands-on simulations designed to strengthen their capabilities in coordinated response, systems management, and situational handling during mass casualty incidents. These efforts further enhance the readiness and resilience of our healthcare and emergency sectors in responding to critical events.

This activity aims to strengthen our preparedness and response in case of a real earthquake. Everyone practiced the essential “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique and reviewed evacuation procedures to ensure safety and readiness. 👷‍♀️🦺
