We are a group of concerned Tungan-ons who are dedicated to bringing the much-needed food, water, medicine and other provisions to everyone in Tunga, Leyte who were affected by supertyphoon Yolanda. In order to do so, we decided to set up Gi-os Tunga with the idea of getting donations, monetary or otherwise, so we can set up a base in Cebu where we can buy the things our fellow Tungan-ons need, and bring them to Tunga for distribution.

It’s been quite a while since we checked in! We hope everyone’s coping as well as can be managed amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, 🙏🙏🙏. Our hometown Tunga has blessedly been infection-free until now, and that’s something we should be thankful for.

As our way of contributing to the town’s efforts to fight this virus, we’ve decided to use our left-over funds (from the Yolanda fund-raising) to purchase PPE’s for our school teachers! I will post photos of the distribution once we’ve done so, but in the meantime, these are photos of the prep work!

Thank you so much to Cheng and Magz , my usual partners-in-crime for the lovely brainstorming; to Vicky for tirelessly sourcing the masks, faceshield, gloves and alcohol; to Mana Cel, Mana Cor and Tisay for doing the leg work there in Tunga; and to Alexia, Eya, Phoemela, and Angela for the invaluable help with the sorting and packing! We’re very proud of you, mga umangkon!

Hello Gi-os Tunga friends! This is a very late post, just got the pictures last week. The photos were taken last June 2014 during the distribution of the school supplies that were donated by students of Washington Bilingual Elementary School of Taiwan. The donation was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Jess Tasker and Ms. Miraflor Salamia.

Our gratitude is heartfelt and enduring despite the late acknowledgement.

Christmas came early to Tunga School District! And the timing was really auspicious – the start of the Misa de Gallo.

Santa Claus came in the guise of PIC Philippines, Inc., a multinational company based in the USA. Our school children received: 432 plastic arm chairs, 22 stand fans, an LCD TV, and a DVD player with speakers.

Gi-os Tunga would like to acknowledge the generous efforts of the following PIC personnel:
1) Vino Borromeo - PICP General Manager
2) Karen Castroverde - PICP HR and Admin Manager
3) Jay Alivio - PIC's Account Manager for Visayas who went with Karen

Likewise, we’d like to thank the indefatigable Cora B. Balano, Tunga District’s Faculty Representative, who coordinated with PIC on this donation.

And of course, thanks are due as well to the Tunga District Administrators and Teaching Staff.

A special shout-out to our very own Luchie Camingao who “went knocking” on her previous employer's door on behalf of her fellow Tungan-ons. This is all you, Cheng! So proud to be part of your team.

Our rehabilitation efforts for Tunga continues, one donation at a time.

From Gi-os Tunga, we wish everyone a better Christmas this year!

N.B. The photos in this post were taken by Adonis Ariza and Mariza Avila-Aumento.

We breathe a sigh of relief and say a prayer of thanksgiving in knowing that our town and its citizens have withstood . Here are post-Ruby pictures taken of the rivers that flow through our town. Apparently, we will have to wait a few days for the swelling to subside before we dip into its waters once more. Definitely, the nationwide response to this typhoon shows lessons learned from the Yolanda experience.

*Thank you Ms. Lilibeth Bacong- Fallorina for the images.
