Otomycosis is a fungal infection of the ear canal. Normally, bacteria and fungi live on the skin all over the body including the ear canal.

What are the symptoms of Otomycosis?
👂🏼Pain in the ear
👂🏼Itching of the ear
👂🏼Plugging of the ear with decreased hearing
👂🏼Drainage from the ear

What Causes Otomycosis?
✅Removing earwax with cotton-tipped swabs can increase the possibility of an ear canal infection because the natural protectant of the skin is gone.
✅Excess moisture can also foster fungal infections of the ear canal in some patients.

What are the treatment options?
✅Preventing the growth of the fungus by removing the dead skin and fungal elements—best accomplished by a thorough cleaning of your ear canal performed by an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist, and the application of an antifungal agent.
✅Protect your ears If you have repeated fungal or bacterial infections.
✅Keeping your ears dry and avoiding excessive use of cotton-tipped swabs.

How Is Chronic Cough Related to ENT Problems?

Not all coughs are lung-related! Chronic cough (lasting >8 weeks) may be linked to ENT issues such as:
🔸 Post-nasal drip
🔸 Allergies
🔸 Acid reflux (LPR)
🔸 Vocal cord irritation
🔸 Throat lumps or masses

If cough persists despite treatment, consult your ENT for a full airway evaluation.

‼️PAALALA‼️

𝗣𝗔𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗞𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗬 𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗟𝗨𝗘𝗡𝗭𝗔-𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦

-Umiwas sa mga masisikip at matataong lugar;
-Takpan ang bibig at ilong kapag uubo o babahing;
-Magsuot ng face mask, lalo na kung lalabas;
-Maghugas ng kamay gamit ang sabon at malinis na tubig;

Statement on Public Shaming of Doctors!

The Philippine Medical Association condemns the recent viral post on social media publicly shaming a Surgeon Physician. Professional fees for doctors can vary based on several factors, including the complexity and type of service rendered and level of expertise of the physician handling the case. Each doctor has the right to determine the worth of his services rendered guided by a common relative value scale followed in the Philippines. Based on accounts on services rendered to the patient mentioned in the case the hospital charges and professional fees were within acceptable limits of ethical practice.

We therefore condemn the post to malign a physician who performed his duty well. He was singled out despite the fact that there were several medical specialists who handled this very complex case. Based on facts gathered the high professional fee in question was incorrect and was actually lower , the physicians even agreed to be paid with a guarantee letter! Considering the patient was treated with utmost compassion and concern by the several attending physicians for more than 20 days the social media post claiming “heartless treatment “ from the Physicians is unjust and uncalled for.

Let's focus on promoting a supportive and respectful environment for healthcare professionals. Doctors and all health care professionals play a vital role in our lives, and you should be acknowledging their hard work and dedication. You were treated and saved from near death to good health ready for discharge and you repay their kindness with Public shaming!

Why Does My Child Keep Getting Ear Infections?

Children have smaller and more horizontal Eustachian tubes, making it easier for fluid and bacteria to get trapped. This can lead to recurrent otitis media (middle ear infection), especially after colds or allergies.

Frequent infections may require ENT evaluation, possible hearing tests, or ear tube placement.

What Is Ear Barotrauma and How Can I Prevent It When Flying?

Ear barotrauma happens when pressure changes—like during takeoff or landing—damage the eardrum or middle ear.

Prevention Tips:
✅ Yawn, swallow, or chew gum during ascent/descent
✅ If with nasal congestion, you may use prescribed intranasal or oral decongestants.
✅ Try earplugs designed for flying

If you feel severe pain or hearing loss after a flight, consult your ENT.
