RESCUERS’ CREDO
(Dr Rted T. Esguerra, January 2004)

R - Recognizing that I am a trained RESCUER, I fully reckon the mental, psychological, emotional and physical demands of my chosen vocation. Willfully, will I always uphold the intellectual integrity, the honor in the humanitarian service, the purity of science, the ethics of lifesaving, and the Team Work in the world of rescue;
E - Enhancing my skills by frequently updating and upgrading my neurons and sinews to save more fathers, more mothers, more sons, and daughters… that I must maintain the adeptness in terms of education and ex*****on of the right and righteous intervention vis-à-vis the fast evolving changes in the art and science of saving lives;
S - Serving every distressed soul regardless of creed, color, race, religion, and cultural attachment; that while it is satisfying, the road to any rescue operation is narrow and its walkway is steep evolving along the avenue of safety, security and survival;
C - Caring to those who are in pain, those who are bleeding, those who are depressed, those who are suffering from loss of loved ones is my description and definition; that whatever it may cost me in terms of strength, logistics and intellect it is only my way of saying: THAT IS HOW MUCH YOU MOTHER COST TO ME;
U - Untiringly will I greet each day with thanksgiving to the Almighty as a miracle of another life, that each day of rising is a bonus that I have overcome death and infirmity yesterday… that I am given a day more to save more;
E - Energetically will I advocate KINDNESS as the answer to both arrogance and aggression; that whatever the world will offer to me and to my profession, I shall always walk the straight and constricted path of kindness, uphold what is kind, however unpopular it may be;
R - Rescue is the language I dream and swear. It is my everyday and Sunday. It is my poem of loving, working, playing. It is my rotation and my vacation. It is my worship and prayer to the Life Sustainer. It is my passion and fashion. It is my husband, it is my wife. Simply my all or none… RESCUE IS MY WAY OF LIFE

TEAM: WHILE WE WORK IN THE FIELD, WE MUST SHOW KINDNESS YET FIRM OVER OUR DECISIONS IN THE ART AND SCIENCE OF SAVING LIVES. HERE IS ONE SIMPLE STATEMENT AS TO WHY:

Rudolf Dreikurs taught the importance of being both kind and firm in our relations with children. Kindness is important in order to show respect for the child. Firmness is important in order to show respect for ourselves and for the needs of the situation. Authoritarian methods usually lack kindness. Permissive methods lack firmness. Kindness and firmness are essential for Positive Discipline.

THE ESSENCE HERE IS THAT WE MUST BE KIND TO EVERYONE BUT NOT TOLERANT TO FALSEHOOD AND MISMANAGEMENT OF CASES IN THE FIELD. WE WILL STICK TO STANDARDS AND NOT JUST THE SO-SO STYLES OF RESCUE OR TEACHING RESCUE. OUR ROLE IS TO THE OPTIMUM AND MAXIMUM. GREAT WEEK AHEAD!
