“It is not enough only to desire the person as a good for oneself, but in addition—and above all—it is also necessary to desire his good.” —Karol Wojtyla, Love and Responsibility ❤️
📖 For this week’s Weekly Dialogues, to honor and commemorate the feast of St. John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) last October 22, the UST Concilium Philosophiae proudly presents the work of our very own Prof. Jove Jim S. Aguas, PhD, entitled “Ethics and Moral Philosophy of Karol Wojtyla”. In this article, Dr. Aguas presents to us the intellectual richness of Wojtyla before and during his 26-year Pontificate; he consequently highlights that, prior to Wojtyla’s papacy and eventual sainthood, he was first and foremost a philosopher. Aguas sheds light about Wojtyla’s notion of ethics and morality, mainly emphasizing that the human person is a being whose value and dignity is completely irreducible.
As we realize that the human person, in his freedom and action is called to be oriented towards the seeking of truth, may we reexamine ourselves, our dispositions, and our communities. In light of our contemporary social ills, such as systemic corruption, may we be liberated from moral indifference and continuously seek and align ourselves with the good that perfects and defines our freedom. In the same breath, may Wojtyla inspire us to be persons who act with and in love, who dignifies others just as we are dignified, and who continuously chooses to reflect the unending graces of the One True God who first loved us. ✝️
Saint Pope John Paul II, pray for us! 🙏
