🧠 Stroke – Recognize It FAST

Stroke = when blood flow is blocked (ischemic) or a vessel ruptures (hemorrhagic).
⚡ Early recognition saves lives!

FAST Mnemonic:
🙂 Face → ask to smile → one side droops
💪 Arm → ask to raise both arms → one drifts down
🗣️ Speech → ask to repeat phrase → slurred/strange words
⏰ Time → if any sign present → call emergency services immediately

Other Warning Signs:
👁️ Sudden vision changes
🚶 Sudden loss of balance/coordination
😖 Sudden severe headache (esp. hemorrhagic stroke)

Risk Factors:
❤️ Hypertension (most important)
🍔 Diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol
⚡ Atrial fibrillation, prior stroke or TIA

👉 Key Point: Every minute counts — “Time is Brain.” Quick recognition & urgent hospital transfer = better survival & function.

💡HYPERKALEMIA

🔹 Definition:
Serum potassium (K⁺) > 5 mEq/L

🔹 Causes:
• Spurious (Pseudo-hyperkalemia): hemolysis of blood sample, fist clenching, delayed sample analysis, extreme leukocytosis or thrombocytosis
• Cellular shifts (K⁺ → ECF): rhabdomyolysis, tumor lysis, acidosis, insulin deficiency, drugs (e.g. succinylcholine, digoxin, β-blockers)
• Excretion problems: renal insufficiency, hypoaldosteronism, drugs (spironolactone, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, trimethoprim)
• Increased intake: K⁺-rich foods (bananas 🍌, potatoes 🥔)

🔹 Clinical Presentation:
• May be asymptomatic
• Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, weakness, intestinal colic, arrhythmias, paresthesia, flaccid paralysis

🔹 ECG Findings to watch for:
• Tall, peaked T waves
• Wide QRS
• PR prolongation
• Loss of P waves

⚠️ Can progress to sine waves → ventricular dysrhythmias → cardiac arrest 💔
