🫀 CARDIAC ARREST: KNOW THE CAUSES– ACT FAST, SAVE LIVES🫀
As a pharmacist, part of my mission is to keep our community informed about serious health emergencies—like CARDIAC ARREST
🔴 What is Cardiac Arrest?
Cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Unlike a heart attack (which is caused by blocked blood flow), cardiac arrest is an electrical problem in the heart.
⚠️ Common Causes of Cardiac Arrest:
1. Coronary artery disease – Blocked arteries reduce blood flow to the heart.
2. Heart attack– Can trigger dangerous heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
3. Cardiomyopathy – Enlarged or thickened heart muscle.
4. Arrhythmias– Especially ventricular fibrillation, a chaotic heart rhythm.
5. Congenital heart defects – Present from birth.
6. Drug overdose– Especially stimulants like co***ne.
7. Severe electrolyte imbalances – Such as low potassium or magnesium.
8. Trauma – Blunt force to the chest can disrupt heart rhythm .
🧠 When the heart stops, the brain only has minutes before damage begins. That’s why immediate action is critical.
🚨What to Do in an Emergency:
✔️ Call emergency services immediately
✔️ Begin CPR – Push hard and fast in the center of the chest
✔️ Use an AED (automated external defibrillator) if available
