Aziz Bhatti Shaheed (DHQ) Teaching Hospital, Gujrat The DHQ Hospital Gujrat was established in 1963 and renamed in 1966 as Aziz Bhatti Shaheed DHQ Hospital, Gujrat. The hospital has 400 beds.

It is not only catering to the health care needs of local people, but also of the people of neighbouring districts and towns such as Bhimber, Mandi Bahauddin and Wazirabad. This hospital is also providing routine care services to the prisoners of District Jail, Gujrat. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has recognised the hospital for house-job training. The hospital currently has the departments of Emergency, ENT, Gynaecology, Medicine, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Paediatrics, TB/Chest Cardiology and Urology.

A Meeting of the Health Awareness Committee was held at Nawaz Sharif Medical College (NSMC). This Meeting was presided over by the Principal NSMC Prof. Dr. Sajjad Hussain. Prof. Dr. Sajjad Hussain while presiding over this special meeting about prevention and eradication of dengue said that dengue was vital for human health and as the dengue season had started, it was our collective duty to make proper arrangements for eradication of dengue saving the precious lives of humanity. He informed that all the students, faculty members and administration of UoG and NSMC would launch a campaign against dengue and would try their best to educate the common people about the preventive measures for dengue. He told that we had already launched an awareness campaign against dengue in collaboration with the District Health Department. Director Coordination NSMC and the secretary of Health Awareness Committee UoG, Dr. Syed Tallat Iqbal while presenting the previous reports of the Committee said that dengue could be prevented by spreading health awareness among the common people about cleanliness, sanitation and general hygiene. He said that the Health Awareness Committee according to its former practice would try its best to help the people fight against dengue. The District Monitoring Officer Health, Dr. Muhammad Ali M***i said that prevention of dengue through awareness among the masses was our priority. The members of this Health Awareness Committee including Prof. Shahida Bashir, Dr. Syed Etezaz Ahmad, Dr. Nadia Khadim, Prof. Noreena Kausar of the Dept. of Psychology and Warden Boys Hostel Asmat Ullah Khokhar suggested some proposals for prevention of dengue and those proposals were approved by the Committee unanimously.

A delegation of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) visited Nawaz Sharif Medical College (NSMC) at University of Gujrat (UoG) for physical inspection of staff, labs and facilities for accreditation of teaching and training program leading to award of FCPS in the disciplines of Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology and Otorhinolaryngology (ENT). Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice President; Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa, Registrar; Prof of Medicine, Dr Amir Shahzad; Prof of Radiology, Dr Mobeen and Prof of ENT, Dr Khalid Ashrafi were the team members of this Physical Inspection Team of CPSP. This team visited the labs of NSMC and consulted the staff for evaluation of the prospects of commencement of FCPS classes. The team also visited Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital affiliated with NSMC to asses the facilities and other notable services. FCPS classes in the disciplines of Surgery and Gynecology had already started in NSMC since last year. Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice President CPSP talking about the achievements of CPSP said, “CPSP has become a prestigious institution in the world. It is considered among some of the best colleges of the world. It was established 50 years ago. There are about 22000 fellows and members of this college in Pakistan. We are providing structured training programs. CPSP degrees are recognized in the world. We are running many international programs. CPSP has been considered the best postgraduate institution of the world in 2013 and has been awarded ‘Socrates Award’.” Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa, Registrar CPSP said, “I appreciate the services of NSMC for cause of medical education. The staff of NSMC is dedicated and hardworking. They have given their hearts to improve the quality of education in NSMC. Discipline and dedication are essential elements for achieving excellence.” Prof Dr Sajjad Hussain, Principal NSMC said, “NSMC is providing quality education to the students. The motto of NSMC is to achieve excellence. NSMC has also launched community healthcare programs for welfare of the masses. I suggest for establishing a branch of CPSP in Gujrat and request Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin for allocation of a piece of land for this purpose.” Dr Maqsood Zahid, President PMA Gujrat assured full cooperation of PMA for establishment of Gujrat branch of CPSP. Dr Syed Tallat Iqbal, Director NSMC gave a detailed outline of the future plans of NSMC. He said that the previous visits of CPSP delegates had remained fruitful for NSMC and classes of FCPS had been started here since last year. Prof Dr Abid Bashir gave a vote of thanks at the end of this meeting. All the HoDs of different departments of NSMC and a large number of faculty members attended this meeting. Prof Dr Shahida performed as the stage secretary.
