Today: honored to deliver a scientific talk on the" role of imaging in Interventional Pulmonology (IP)" on the occasion of the 1st annual conference of Interventional Pulmonology, Pakistan, held @ PC hotel, Karachi.
As an interventional radiologist, we welcome & encourage our pulmonology colleagues to progress and achieve the best, whatever needed for patients.
We are expecting a good collaboration between the Chest Society of Pakistan and the Interventional Radiology Society of Pakistan (IRSP) in future.

13th December 2025:
Conducted a workshop on Musculoskeletal Ultrasound,its use and role in MSK intervention, for a refined group of qualified radiologists.
Society of Pakistan annual scientific conference, held at PC hotel Lahore.
The workshop was sponsored by Canon /Mediequips ,who offers one of the higher end ultrasound machines with very high quality imaging.

Today: invited as Guest of honor, in Pakistan Society of Radiography and Radiation Therapy" (PSRRT) annual scientific conference, held at JPMC Rangoonwala auditorium, Karachi.
Radiographers are the backbone of Radiology,and need to be empowered to provide better healthcare outcomes.

Yesterday: delivered a scientific talk on "Imaging insight in Rheumatoid Arthritis" Indus Hospital & Health Network , Karachi, organized by PIMA.
The talk emphasized that:
- RA is a clinical diagnosis.
- High frequency Ultrasound is the best to start investigation in early cases.
-MRI is the gold standard, but must be done on a 1.5 T heavy machine with dedicated coils.
-X-rays show changes which are already advanced.
-a good collaboration between Rheumatologist and Radiologist,is a must to better serve these sufferers.

The best reward a doctor could get is the relief in the pain or sickness of his patients.
The old mama who came from UAE for genicular nerve ablation for knee ,is now doing fine.Her sent acknowledged today after a couple of weeks. She is now able to sleep at night after years of discomfort.
کسی ڈاکٹر کے لیے سب سے بہترین انعام یہ ہوتا ہے کہ اس کے مریض کے درد یا بیماری میں کمی آجائے۔
وہ بزرگ خاتون جو گھٹنے کے Genicular Nerve Ablation کے لیے متحدہ عرب امارات سے آئی تھیں، اب بالکل ٹھیک ہیں۔ ان کا پیغام آج چند ہفتوں بعد موصول ہوا۔ وہ اب کئی سالوں کی تکلیف کے بعد رات کو آرام سے سو سکتی ہیں۔

یہ نوجوان خاتون آسٹریلیا سے آئیں، جنہی دائیں پاؤں میں دیرینہ درد کی شکایت تھی، جو صبح کے وقت زیادہ ہوتا تھا۔ وہ کافی عرصے سے ایک معالج کے مشورے پر درد کم کرنے والی دوائیں استعمال کر رہی تھیں۔
وہ ہمارے پاس آئیں تو ہم نے صرف "ہائی فریکوئنسی الٹراساؤنڈ" کیا، جس میں پلانٹر فیشیا کی موٹائی پائی گئی، جو پلانٹر فیشیائٹس (Plantar Fasciitis) کی علامت ہے۔
بیماری کے ضدی (Refractory) نوعیت کے باعث، ہم نے انہیں الٹراساؤنڈ گائیڈڈ اسٹیرائیڈ انجکشن (برائے فوری علامات) اور آرچ فِٹ جوتے (برائے دیرینہ علامات) تجویز کیے۔

نتیجہ:
ایم آر آئی جیسے مہنگے ٹیسٹ ہمیشہ ضروری نہیں ہوتے۔ ماہر ہاتھوں میں ایک سادہ ٹیسٹ جیسے ہائی فریکوئنسی الٹراساؤنڈ بعض اہم بیماریوں کی اتنی ہی اچھی یا اس سے بہتر تفصیلات فراہم کر سکتا ہے۔

Important to understand:
This young guy had pain for a couple of years in his right arm. He went through MRI (low quality) and even open surgery.Nobody diagnosed his disease.So much so that an orthopedic Dr. in a very big tertiary care hospital said that there is nothing but the pain that has settled in your mind.
Dr. Malik Osama a high skilled orthopedic surgeon called me and rightly asked to do a high frequency ultrasound for his symptoms.
In 5 minutes we were able to identify the pathology and labelled it as a peripheral Neuroma.
Dr. Malik osama operates on him and found the same and excised the lesion.
Luckily due to high quality surgery, no motor or sensory deficit was observed in the arm.
Conclusion:
High frequency ultrasound in experts hands , sometimes,is much more accurate as compared to MRI,especially in the Musculoskeletal system.

یہ نوجوان کئی سالوں سے اپنے دائیں بازو میں درد محسوس کر رہا تھا۔ اُس نے ایک کم معیار کا ایم آر آئی کروایا، حتیٰ کہ اُس پر اوپن سرجری بھی کی گئی، لیکن کوئی بھی اس کی بیماری کی صحیح تشخیص نہ کر سکا۔
یہاں تک کہ ایک بڑے تیسرے درجے کے اسپتال کے آرتھوپیڈک ڈاکٹر نے کہہ دیا کہ "یہ صرف وہم ہے، درد صرف آپ کے دماغ میں بیٹھ گیا ہے۔"

ڈاکٹر اسامہ، جو کہ ایک نہایت ماہر آرتھوپیڈک سرجن ہیں، نے مجھ سے رابطہ کیا اور دخواست کی کہ اس کی علامات کے لیے ہائی فریکوئنسی الٹراساؤنڈ کیا جائے۔

صرف 5 منٹ میں ہم نے بیماری کی تشخیص کر لی اور اسے پیریفرل نیوروما
(Peripheral Neuroma) قرار دیا۔
ڈاکٹر اسامہ نے اُس کا آپریشن کیا اور بالکل وہی چیز پائی گئی جیسا الٹراساؤنڈ میں نظر آیا تھا، اور وہ نقصان دہ رسولی نکال دی گئی۔

خوش قسمتی سے، اعلیٰ معیار کی سرجری کی وجہ سے بازو میں کوئی بھی موٹر یا سینسری کمی واقع نہیں ہوئی۔
نتیجہ:
ماہر ہاتھوں میں ہائی فریکوئنسی الٹراساؤنڈ بعض اوقات ایم آر آئی سے بھی زیادہ درست ثابت ہو سکتا ہے، خاص طور پر عضلاتی و ہڈیوں (Musculoskeletal system) کے نظام میں۔
