There’s a growing concern over anti-government groups attacking schools and education in Afghanistan. In response to these threats, schools have been closing. Some 30,000 students are being kept home. The past few years thousands of schools have been closed and reopened due to the wartime insecurities. Recently, however, schools have started to close again as threats and violence begin to rise. Parents are choosing to keep their children home and away from school.

In 2012, approximately 150 million girls across the developing world are not in school (that’s more than the populations of the Pakistan and India combined). Many are held home by life-threatening health concerns like HIV and unintended pregnancy. Every year, more than 14 million girls between 15 and 19 years of age give birth to a child, and in Africa alone, 75 percent of 15- to 24-year-olds livings with HIV are girls. These statistics are inexcusable – and they are entirely preventable.

Fortunately, private companies, governments, NGO, civil society organizations, and New LIfe Health Org are now working together to do something about it.
Health. Every week, approximately 600 10-12 year old girls from four districts meet in youth centers and schools to discuss and learn about important topics such as puberty, HIV, delaying sexual debut, contraception and financial literacy. It’s a simple, life-saving, and life affirming program that is giving young girls in Rwanda the chance to be healthy, to be independent, and to dream.
It’s the same wish I have for my sweet daughter Lilly.

NEW LIFE HEALTH ORG
Girls' and Women's Education
School Education programs has a long history of successfully working with local partners to design, execute, manage and evaluate participatory, community-based initiatives to advance the conditions of girls and women. School Education programs help girls enroll and stay in school and help women gain access to or create new educational, financial, and social resources in their communities. School Education programs help girls and women improve their own lives, the lives of their families and the conditions in the their communities. For parents - and especially mothers - this means creating conditions that ensure their daughters have equal access to basic education, are able to make informed decisions about their futures, and are able to protect themselves from trafficking, sexual exploitation, HIV and AIDS, for example.

By improving educational opportunities for girls and women,School Education helps women develop skills that allow them to make decisions and influence community change in key areas. In turn, these programs have a positive impact on some of the most profound issues of our time: population growth, HIV and AIDS, peace and security, and the widening gap between the rich

Private schools have become a necessity for contemporary Pakistani society since the government has failed to provide quality education for its population. A majority of parents, even those from lower income brackets, send their children to private schools so they can receive an education that will enable them to be competitive.

Also, most Pakistanis want their children to learn English. Private schools offer all instruction in English while government schools offer instruction in either Urdu or the local provincial language.

The feudal state of Pakistani society has prevented meaningful educational reforms from taking place. And, in many rural areas where the local tribal chief's word is law, schools will not function without his say so. There are many cases where chiefs will not allow any schools in their "jurisdiction."
