A STROKE occurs when the blood supply to part of brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die in minutes. A stroke is a medical emergency, and prompt treatment is crucial. Early action can reduce brain damage and other complications.
CAUSES OF STROKES :
It include ischemia (loss of blood supply) or hemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain. People at risk for stroke include those who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and those who smoke. People with heart rhythm disturbances, especially atrial fibrillation are also at risk.
TREATMENT :
Emergency IV medication.
An IV injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) — also called alteplase (Activase) — is the gold standard treatment for ischemic stroke. An injection of tPA is usually given through a vein in the arm with the first three hours.
ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN STROKE CONDITION :
Physiotherapy enables people to relearn lost abilities, regain independence and reduce the risk of further strokes. Physiotherapy improves recovery of function and mobility after stroke.
