45th KEMUCON Pre Conference "Awareness Seminar & Walk on World Pneumonia Day"
On the eve of World Pneumonia Day 2025, in collaboration with Pakistan Pediatric Association and it's Infectious Diseases Group, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Department of Pediatric Medicine Unit-II conducted an awareness seminar and walk, under Patronage of *Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz* (Vice Chancellor, King Edward Medical University, Lahore) & *Prof M Haroon Hamid* (Chairman, Dept of Pediatrics, KEMU/Chief Executive Officer, Mayo Hospital, Lahore). *Prof M Faheem Afzal* (Prof Pediatric Medicine Unit-II/Program Director, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, King Edward Medical University, Lahore) was the Chief Organizer.
*Prof Masood Sadiq*, Vice Chancellor, University of Child Health Sciences, Lahore and President Pakistan Pediatric Association was the Guest of Honor. Other Guests included *Prof M Ashraf Sultan* (Member Syndicate KEMU, Ex-Program Director Pediatric ID, KEMU) & *Dr. Qurrat-ul-Ain Ahmed* (Health Specialist UNICEF). *Prof M Tariq Bhatti*, Professor Pediatrics & Principal, Abu Ammara Medical College, Lahore was the Lead Speaker, who discussed evidence based guidelines for Pneumonia in Children.
*Prof Mahmood Ayyaz* emphasized the importance of preventive aspects in childhood Pneumonia and appreciated the efforts to create awareness among health care professionals and masses.
*Prof Masood Sadiq* emphasized that pneumonia remains the leading infectious killer of children under five, yet it is largely preventable with vaccinations, good nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and hygiene. He assured his full support on behalf of the Pakistan Pediatric Association. The seminar was followed by an *awareness walk* led by President PPA.
A notable event was video and poster competition for Final Year MBBS students of King Edward Medical University Lahore, where cash awards were given for best video and poster.
(This is worth mentioning that Department of Pediatrics King Edward Medical University Lahore is the accredited site for the training in the discipline of Pediatric Infectious Diseases).
