Canadian citizenship rules softened up.
Bill C-3 has officially amended Canada's Citizenship Act (effective December 15, 2025), eliminating the restrictive "first-generation limit." This pivotal legislative change retroactively confers Canadian citizenship upon thousands of previously excluded "Lost Canadians" and their descendants.
Crucially, future citizenship by descent beyond the first generation now mandates the Canadian parent, if also born abroad, demonstrate a Substantial Connectionβthree years of physical presence in Canada.
IRCC is actively applying these updated statutory criteria. Consult with our accredited specialists to ascertain eligibility and navigate this complex path to Canadian citizenship.
