Studies on caffeineโ€™s effects on heart health have gained interest in recent years. One crucial question remains: How much caffeine is too much?
In this roundup of the latest studies exploring the effects of caffeine on cardiovascular health, Medical News Today compiles the most recent evidence to highlight key findings and takeaways.
Some studies suggest that consuming caffeine may help boost vascular health and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, while others indicate that consuming too much may increase the risk of stroke.
Millions of people are regular coffee drinkersTrusted Source. Some people prefer to consume the popular caffeinated beverage in the morning to increase alertnessTrusted Source and alleviate fatigue, while others consume it throughout the day for multiple other health benefitsTrusted Source.

Considering that around 1 in 7 deaths worldwide are caused by coronary heart disease, coffeeโ€™s potential cardioprotective benefits make it an exciting topic of research.

The most recent study on this topic, published inRheumatology on October 9, found that consuming more caffeineโ€”found in sources such as coffee, tea, and cocoaโ€”may help improve blood vessel health. What made this study particularly interesting was that it was conducted in patients with lupus, an autoimmune disease that has been tied to an increased riskTrusted Source of stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular disease.

But what does all the evidence so far say? Can coffee improve heart health, or does too much cause harm?

Building upon Medical News Todayโ€˜s regular in-depth reporting on studies related to heart health, this overview aims to provide a snapshot of the key pieces of research on caffeineโ€˜s effects on the heart and overall health with expertsโ€™ views on these findings.

Put your jacket on or else youโ€™ll get the fluโ€, โ€œstay off air streams or else youโ€™ll get a coldโ€, do you remember your parents ever saying that to you as a kid? I do! Or how about now, after what we went through with COVID, being paranoid of every sneeze and cough you hear? I am! Have you noticed that for the past month almost everyone around you is sick every other day and it doesnโ€™t seem to go away? Well, itโ€™s not a new bug, itโ€™s just the winter season (and.. a little bit of lack of precaution, our bodies forgetting how to fight more common illnesses and back-to-back infections).

Some respiratory illnesses actually are more common during the winter but it is not because of the weather itself but because we spend more time indoors and with closed windows, which allows bacteria and viruses to pass easily from person to person. Also, if you already have a virus, lower body temperature makes it harder for you to fight it.

Some of these common illnesses during colder months are whooping cough, pneumonia, bronchitis (acute and chronic), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), flu and common cold. Most of them have the same symptoms at the beginning, so what you have to check out for is how it develops and if you start to experience more severe symptoms.

Now, symptoms that go away and then reappear could be part of the same viral infection, so that mixed with a cold environment, could make it seem like several respiratory infections immediately one after the other, but itโ€™s really just one that seems to never end.
