Every Second Counts: GTTH Empowers Frontline Staff in Neonatal Resuscitation
The Department of Pediatrics, GTTH, Lahore organized a focused Neonatal Resuscitation Training session for Lady Health Visitors / Birth attendants from the different BHUs located in rural areas surrounding GTTH, aimed at enhancing preparedness for critical moments immediately after birth.
Recognizing that timely and skilled intervention can make the difference between life and death, the training emphasized rapid assessment, effective ventilation, and coordinated team-based resuscitation.
Participants received hands-on experience through skill stations and simulated emergency scenarios, applying evidence-based neonatal resuscitation protocols under the kind supervision of Prof. Dr. Rizwan Waseem. Hands on practice was conducted by our experienced Paediatrics faculty on the specified neonatal manikins. Key components included airway management, bag-and-mask ventilation, chest compressions, and appropriate escalation of care in high-risk newborns. Our Paediatrics Residents and House Officers also attended and learnt these life saving skills.
This initiative reflects GTTH’s continued commitment to improving neonatal outcomes by equipping frontline healthcare providers with practical skills, clinical confidence, and up-to-date knowledge. By strengthening the capacity of those who serve at the very first point of care, the program contributes meaningfully to safer deliveries, improved neonatal survival, and stronger community health services.

Lecture on “Ramadan and Diabetes” at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, Lahore.

Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital organized an informative academic lecture titled “Ramadan and Diabetes” on 23rd January 2026, aimed at enhancing clinicians’ understanding of diabetes management during the holy month of Ramadan. The session was arranged by the Department of Medicine and delivered by Professor Dr Rayaz Malik, Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar, a renowned authority in the field of diabetes and metabolic disorders.
The lecture addressed the unique physiological and clinical challenges faced by patients with diabetes who choose to fast during Ramadan. Professor Malik comprehensively discussed risk stratification of diabetic patients, safe fasting practices, and individualized treatment adjustments. Emphasis was placed on pre-Ramadan assessment, patient education, medication modification, and monitoring strategies to minimize complications such as hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, dehydration, and diabetic ketoacidosis.
Evidence-based guidelines and real-world clinical scenarios were shared, enabling participants to translate theoretical knowledge into practical decision-making. The interactive discussion allowed attendees to raise questions related to insulin regimens, oral hypoglycemic agents, and the role of newer antidiabetic therapies during fasting. Special attention was given to patient counseling and shared decision-making, reinforcing the importance of culturally sensitive and patient-centered care.
The lecture was attended by house officers, postgraduate residents, and consultants of the Department of Medicine, reflecting strong academic engagement across all levels of clinical training. Closing remarks were delivered by Professor Dr Shamail Zafar, Head of the Department of Medicine, who also played a key role in arranging and organizing the session. He highlighted the importance of continued medical education and evidence-based practice in improving patient outcomes.
Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital remains committed to organizing such academic activities that promote clinical excellence and high-quality patient care.
