✅ Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that causes a rash, fever, cough, and red, watery eyes. It spreads through droplets from an infected person's cough or sneeze and can lead to serious complications like pneumonia and encephalitis (brain swelling).
✅ The best prevention is vaccination with the MMR vaccine, and if you suspect you have measles, call your doctor ahead of your visit to prevent spreading it to others.
❄️Symptoms❄️
✔️Initial symptoms: Fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis).
✔️Oral symptoms: Two to three days after initial symptoms, tiny white spots with bluish-white centers on red spots in the mouth (Koplik spots) may appear.
✔️Rash: A red, blotchy, non-itchy rash appears 3 to 5 days after initial symptoms. It typically starts on the face and spreads down the body.
✔️Other symptoms: Tiredness, muscle aches, headache, and diarrhea can also occur.
❄️Causes and transmission❄️
➡️ Measles is caused by the measles virus.
It is an airborne disease, spreading easily through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes.
➡️ The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left the area.
