During Ramadan, a significant influx of beggars has arrived in Saudi Arabia, prompting authorities to take action against them.
As reported by Arab media, Saudi police have apprehended over 4,000 beggars from the vicinity of Masjid al-Haram and relocated them to police stations. Following legal procedures, these beggars will be repatriated to their respective countries.
In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, there is a call for a crackdown on begging, citing that professional beggars can pose a security threat, and their activities may contribute to funding terrorist organizations.
The statement also emphasizes the strict prohibition of begging in Islam, advising against giving charity to beggars as they are often part of organized criminal networks.
Furthermore, the Saudi Ministry of Interior's statement mentions plans for operations against beggars not only around Masjid al-Haram but also at other holy sites like Masjid al-Nabawi and major mosques.
