KPSA Holds Historic First Annual Meeting at Hayatabad Medical Complex – Charts Bold Future for Anesthesia in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Peshawar, Pakistan — 20 December 2025 — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Society of Anaesthesiologists (KPSA) today hosted its inaugural Annual General Meeting at Hayatabad Medical Complex, marking a landmark moment for the specialty across the province. Under the dynamic leadership of its President, Chairman, and Secretary-General, KPSA members gathered to address critical challenges facing anesthesia services and chart a transformative path forward.
Key Resolutions & Strategic Decisions:
1. Ministerial Engagement:
KPSA will meet with the Provincial Health Minister within the next 7–14 days, alongside key stakeholders including the Sehat sahulat program (SSP) and the Health Care Commission (HCC), to finalize and implement standardized procedural packages and enforce MSDS (Minimum Service Delivery Standards) rigorously.
2. Patient Safety Through Trained Staff:
The society will advocate for the exclusive deployment of formally trained doctors under the direct supervision of qualified anesthetists across all public and private hospitals. KPSA stands firm against any compromise on patient safety and will confront resistance to protect the rights and dignity of anesthesia professionals.
3. Postgraduate Development:
Following unanimous cabinet approval, KPSA will formally recommend the introduction of a postgraduate diploma program in *Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Management* to strengthen specialist training pathways.
4. Cabinet Reorganization:
A strategic reshuffle of the KPSA executive committee will be undertaken, with key portfolios assigned to highly qualified candidates to drive implementation of the society’s agenda.
5. Society Registration Progressing:
With the constitution now ratified, KPSA’s formal registration as a professional society is currently underway, paving the way for enhanced institutional credibility and outreach.
6. Centralized DA Examinations:
KPSA will further work on the DA exam format like CPSP to make a centralize pool for DA Exams.
7. District-Level Collaboration:
Every district-level KPSA cabinet will commence active coordination with local HCC offices to prevent patient harm, improve service delivery, and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols.
8. Recruitment Drive:
In partnership with the Provincial Health Department and HCC, KPSA is spearheading efforts to fill vacant anesthesia posts across the public sector, addressing critical shortages that undermine patient care.
9. Unified Commitment to Excellence:
KPSA reaffirms its pledge to uphold the highest standards of the anesthesia specialty — protecting professional rights, elevating clinical practice, and fostering collaboration with all stakeholders to transform anesthesiology in KP.
