Today is the start of the month of Muharram, marking the beginning of the new Hijri year according to the Islamic calendar. Muharram is the first month in the Islamic (lunar) calendar.the Islamic New Year is observed in a soft tone which is constant but in a passionate manner throughout the world. For Muslims the beginning of the Islamic year coincides with the migration of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Medina.
The word migration in Arabic means Hijra. The Islamic calendar is called Hijri.he lesson behind migration as taught by some Islamic scholars marks the beginning of Islamic propagation. "During those days, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was in fact trying to find a suitable or welcoming place for Islam. Makkah was occupied by pagan believers, thus the Muslim population was not welcomed in that part of the world, and for Islam to grow and mature, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) believed that Islamic faith has to be planted in more fertile and appropriate land. Medina was chosen by the Prophet as the
best place for Islam to grow and mature,"
