Karachi: The inaugural ceremony of the 10th biennial conference of Pakistan Chest Society, ‘ChestCon 2012’, was held at a local hotel here on Thursday.
Prof Nadeem Rizvi, the president of Pakistan Chest Society, said Pakistan ranked eight amongst the high TB burden countries around the world harbouring 63 percent of tuberculosis burden in eastern Mediterranean. “Chest disease forms a significant proportion of diseases in Pakistan… About 100,000 people die annually due to use of to***co,” said Prof Masood Hamid, who presided over the conference as chief guest.
The three-day conference is being attended by heart experts from the UK, the US, Italy and South Africa among other countries. In the three-day events, young specialists will present their studies and interact with experts who will share their experiences. Workshops will be held where attendees will get an opportunity to receive hands-on knowledge on latest technologies in the field.
