𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐬𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝-𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞?
Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) is a common condition characterized by inflammation of the patellar tendon at the tibial tuberosity, primarily affecting adolescents during periods of rapid growth. This condition is often associated with sports activities that involve running and jumping, leading to repetitive stress on the knee joint.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬:
- Pain and swelling below the kneecap
- Increased pain during activities like running, jumping, or climbing stairs
- Possible limping due to severe pain etc.

𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦:
Osgood-Schlatter disease is classified as an overuse injury. It occurs during growth spurts when the bones, muscles, and tendons grow at different rates. The patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shinbone (tibia), pulls on the growth plate at the tibial tuberosity, leading to inflammation and pain

𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Diagnosis is primarily based on clinical symptoms and physical examination. Imaging studies, such as X-rays, may be utilized to rule out other conditions but are not always necessary since the diagnosis can often be made based on history and physical findings.

𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:
Rest: Reducing or modifying activities that exacerbate symptoms.
Ice Therapy: Applying ice to reduce swelling and pain.
Stretching and Strengthening Exercises: Engaging in specific exercises can help alleviate symptoms.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): Medications like ibuprofen can help manage pain and inflammation.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬:
The prognosis for Osgood-Schlatter disease is generally good. Approximately 90% of patients report resolution of symptoms within 12 to 24 months with appropriate management strategies.
