Polish Association of Dental Students PTSS
PTSS members got truly involved in this initiative! We ran "Niebieskie Usta" ("Blue Lips") in 10 big cities in Poland! We examined over 2000 people and warned many, many more about mouth cancers and general oral hygiene. Students gave some advice how to prevent mouth cancer, which was handed to each person after the examination, they showed special oral hygiene instruments, made free check-ups and showed the importance of this aspects in mouth cancer prevention. We examined our patients with proffesional equipment for mouth cancer detection called OraliTest, which is fluorescent device which main role is to detect cancer lesions on oral mucosa. We did exhibitons where we show and indicate to patients on what they should be aware when we talk about mouth cancer. The action was held in collaboration with IFMSA POLAND, so every one had an opportunity to measure blood pressure, sugar or oxygen saturation, because general health and regular examination is very important in mouth cancer prevention. We focused not only on elderly people – the group of greater risk, but also we had kids corner, in which we tried to reduce fear from dentists, because regular dental check-ups should be a habit from early childhood - the main point of mouth cancer prevention. We also ran social media campaign true our facebook/instagram/snapchat canals and made lots of articles to local press.
