🇵🇹: Sabe distinguir uma Amigdalite de uma Faringite? Pode ser mais difícil do que imagina! 🤔

Ambas as doenças causam dor de garganta forte, mas têm origens diferentes.

A amigdalite afeta somente as amígdalas palatinas, enquanto a faringite abrange toda a faringe incluido a rinofaringe, orofaringe e hipofaringe. Apesar destas terem sintomas semelhantes, como a dor ao engolir ou febre, a forma como são tratadas difere.

Não deixe que existam dúvidas no ar e consulte um otorrinolaringologista para um diagnóstico adequado. 💙

🇬🇧: Can you tell tonsillitis from pharyngitis? It may be more difficult than you think! 🤔

Both diseases cause a severe sore throat, but they have different origins.

Tonsillitis only affects the tonsils, while pharyngitis covers the entire rhinofarynx, oropharynx and hypopharynx with vocal cord area. Although they have similar symptoms, such as pain when swallowing or fever, the way they are treated differs.

As pessoas que estão habitualmente expostas a água e ar frios têm maior probabilidade de desenvolver exostoses.

As exostoses são proeminências ósseas no canal auditivo externo que o tornam mais estreito.

Ocorrem em pessoas que se expõem repetidamente à água fria e vento frio, especialmente surfistas. 🌊

Exostoses are bony overgrowths in the external ear canal.

They occur in people who are repeatedly exposed to cold water and cold wind, especially surfers. 🌊

🇵🇹: Vamos falar sobre os diferentes graus de perda auditiva?

O nosso sistema auditivo é composto pelo ouvido externo, ouvido médio, ouvido interno, nervo auditivo e cortex cerebral auditivo.

A perda de audição pode ocorrer quando uma destas partes não está a funcionar de forma adequada. 👂

Embora a perda auditiva possa variar de ligeira a profunda, hoje partilho as 5 classificações de graus de perda auditiva:

👉 Perda Auditiva Leve: dificuldade em ouvir pessoas que falam baixo. As vogais são audíveis, mas algumas consoantes suaves podem ser perdidas. Podem precisar de pedir para repetir o que foi dito.

👉 Perda Auditiva Moderada: Além de consoantes as vogais também se tornam difíceis de ouvir. Comentam que sem aparelhos auditivos conseguem ouvir, mas nem sempre entender.

👉 Perda Auditiva Moderadamente Severa: Sem aparelhos auditivos, a compreensão está muito prejudicada.

👉 Perda Auditiva Severa: Sem aparelhos auditivos ou implantes cocleares, a fala é inaudível.

👉 Perda Auditiva Profunda: fala inaudível e pode ser impossível ouvir sons muito altos como motores de avião, trânsito ou alarmes de incêndio.

Apesar dos te**es auditivos online estarem a tornar-se cada vez mais comuns, é recomendado realizar uma avaliação presencial.

🇬🇧: Shall we talk about the different degrees of hearing loss?

Our auditory system is made up of the outer ear, middle ear, inner ear, auditory nerve or acoustic nerve and auditory cerebral cortex.

Hearing loss can occur when one of these parts is not working properly. 👂

Although hearing loss can range from mild to profound, today I'm sharing the 5 classifications of degrees of hearing loss:

👉 Mild Hearing Loss: difficulty hearing people who speak softly. Vowels are audible, but some soft consonants may be lost. They may need to be asked to repeat what has been said.

👉 Moderate Hearing Loss: In addition to consonants, vowels also become difficult to hear. They comment that without hearing aids they can hear, but not always understand.

Moderately Severe Hearing Loss: Without hearing aids, understanding is severely impaired.

👉 Severe Hearing Loss: Without hearing aids or cochlear implants, speech is inaudible.

👉 Profound Hearing Loss: speech is inaudible and it may be impossible to hear very loud sounds such as airplane engines, traffic or fire alarms.

Although online hearing tests are becoming increasingly common, it is recommended to have a face-to-face assessment.

🇵🇹: Resposta: A otite média serosa. 😞

Esta condição acontece quando um exsudado (líquido mucoso) se acumula na caixa do tímpano, dificultando o movimento da membrana timpânica e da cadeia ossicular. Como tal a passagem do som até ao ouvido interno é diminuída e causa, portanto, surdez.

🔍 Em muitos casos, a otite serosa desaparece sozinha. No entanto, alguns casos necessitam de tratamento médico ou até cirúrgico, como a colocação de pequenos tubos no tímpano para ajudar a drenar o líquido e restaurar a audição.

A deteção e tratamento precoce são fundamentais para garantir que a criança desenvolva uma audição saudável, evitando problemas futuros! 🙏

🇬🇧: Answer: Middle ear effusion. 😞

This condition occurs when a fluid builds up behind the tympanic membrane in the tympanic cavity, making it difficult for the tympanic membrane and ossicular chain to move. Therefore the passage of the sound through the middle into the inner ear is diminished.

🔍 In many cases, middle ear effusion disappears on its own. However, some cases require medical or even surgical treatment, such as the placement of small tubes in the eardrum to help drain the fluid and restore hearing.

Early detection and treatment are key to ensure that your child develops a healthy hearing and avoids future problems! 🙏

🇵🇹: De todas as crianças 1-2% vão apresentar apneia do sono com pausas respiratórias superiores a 3 segundos.

Para além de ser incómodo, é também um sinal de que existe um distúrbio durante o sono.

Por isso, não é normal que uma criança ressone. 🚫

Na presença de sinais e sintomas sugestivos deve procurar um otorrino.

🇬🇧: Of all children, 1-2% will have sleep apnea with breathing pauses of more than 3 seconds.

Beside being annoying, it's also a sign that the breathing pattern is disrupted during the sleep.

So it's not normal for a child to snore. 🚫

In the presence of suggestive signs and symptoms, you should seek an otolaryngologist.

➡ Contudo, a identificação precoce, o uso de aparelhos auditivos e outras intervenções auditivas podem melhorar significativamente a qualidade de vida, permitindo desfrutar melhor em sociedade e família. Diminuindo o isolamento social e a vergonha causadas pela surdez.

Chegou o momento de retribuirmos o cuidado e atenção que sempre recebemos.

Identifica os sons mais suaves que o ser humano consegue ouvir em diferentes frequências e diferentes volumes através de várias linhas e símbolos.

Como entender os resultados e a importância de cada teste?👂

📊 Volume (dB): Representado de cima (sons suaves) para baixo (sons altos). Linha vertical

🎶 Frequência (Hz): De esquerda (tons graves) para direita (tons agudos). Linha horizontal.

🔴 Linha Vermelha (O): Resultados do ouvido direito.
🔵 Linha Azul (X): Resultados do ouvido esquerdo.

💡 Teste de Condução Óssea: avalia a audição do ouvido interno

🇵🇹: A cera dos ouvidos, ou cerúmen, possui várias funções, incluindo a proteção e limpeza do canal auditivo. 👂

Mas… Quando há um excesso da sua produção, o canal auditivo externo é estreito e curvilíneo ou quando é contrariado o seu movimento fisiológico (por exemplo, com o uso da cotonete) pode ocorrer impactação e formação de um “rolhão de cera”.

Assim, deve procurar cuidados médicos de um otorrinolaringologista quando:

👉 É necessária a remoção da cera;
👉 Surgem sintomas de impactação da cera e bloqueio do canal auditivo externo;
👉 Existem sintomas sugestivos de inflamação do canal auditivo externo;
👉 De forma periódica principalmente se utilizar aparelhos auditivos

🇬🇧: Earwax, or cerumen, has several functions, including protecting and cleaning the ear canal. 👂

But... If there is a narrow canal, an excess of production or when its physiological movement is thwarted (for example, by using a cotton bud), impaction and the formation of a “wax plug” can occur.

You should therefore seek medical attention from an ENT specialist when:

👉 Wax removal is necessary;
👉 Symptoms of wax impaction and blockage of the external ear canal appear;
👉 There are symptoms suggestive of inflammation of the external ear canal;
👉 Periodically, especially if you use hearing aids.

🇵🇹: Hoje partilho algumas dicas que podem contribuir para impedir o seu aparecimento este verão! 😊

👉 Inclinar a cabeça para cada um dos lados após o banho ou os mergulhos;
👉 Limpar o ouvido com a ponta da toalha ou até secar o ouvido com um secador a uma distância de pelo menos 50cm;
👉 Dosear o tempo de permanência dentro de água.
👉 Utilizar gotas apropriadas para a prevenção da otite

Se a dor for persistente e se observar saída de pus pelo ouvido, recomenda-se que consulte um médico.

👉 Tilt your head to either side after bathing or diving;
👉 Wipe your ear naturally with the tip of a towel;
👉 Control how much time you spend in the water.

If the pain is persistent or you notice ear discharge coming out of the ear, it is recommended that you consult a doctor.
