Sometimes we may Mormonism the difference between hiding and resting. When we hide, we’re not putting ourselves out there fully to be seen as we are - maybe out of fear of others reaction or judgement of ourselves. So we disguise it as resting when actually what’s going on below is everything but restful.

For along time I used to adapt to other people’s feelings or sometimes let other people’s emotions influence my own. It’s so good to feel your emotions but sometimes they can be hard to handle and overwhelm us - and then we get reactive. That shows in getting anxious, angry, hysteric etc. - it’s totally okay to have these outbursts but it important to recognize your behavior and learn to respond differently the next time around.

On the flip side, when we see someone struggle, instead of engaging in their stress and adding intensity, we can let them have their moment. Often, when we’re not aware of being stressed, it’s not clear to us how we impact others around us, so we may get defensive rather than being open for feedback.

The good thing is, we can practice building awareness around stress simply by checking in with ourselves in the morning. Taking 15min time to observe our state of mind and navigate through emotions that may come up. If we practice this continuously, we cultivate awareness for our state and are able to regulate it easily when needed.
