Esta obra, que abrange a temática régia feminina nacional, foi produzida numa perspectiva não romanceada, antes em pequenas biografias, profusamente ilustrada, abarcando rainhas que ficaram conhecidas pela sua beleza e cultura, pela sua majestade e elegância, por operarem milagres e por terem um trágico destino e, por fim, por terem dado à História grandes homens e mulheres. Algumas foram rainhas estrangeiras e influenciaram a corte e a nossa História; outras foram Rainhas portuguesas, marcando uma forte presença da cultura lusitana nas cortes europeias.
De um total de treze Rainhas ficaremos a conhecer essencialmente, para além de traços biográficos, a esfera privada, os costumes e a moda. Como bem explica D. Isabel, Duquesa de Bragança, “esta obra vem preencher uma lacuna nos nossos livros de História”.

This book, which covers the national female royal theme, was produced in a non-romantic perspective, rather in short biographies, profusely illustrated, encompassing queens who became known for their beauty and culture, for their majesty and elegance, for working miracles and for having a tragic fate and, finally, for having given history great men and women. Some were foreign queens and influenced the court and our history; others were Portuguese Queens, marking a strong presence of Portuguese culture in European courts.
From a total of thirteen Queens, we will get to know essentially, in addition to biographical traits, the private sphere, customs and fashion. As D. Isabel, Duchess of Bragança, explains well, “this work fills a gap in our history books”.
