Location | São João de Brito, Lisbon, Portugal

São João de Brito is an old township of Lisbon created in 1959 during the administrative city reform. It was led to extinction through the administrative reorganisation carried out in 2012. The former township now has about 12,000 inhabitants today.

Here from Conde de Ficalho street, a street filled with townhouses in 3 stories placed neatly towards the street.

Wemding is a town and municipality with about 6000 inhabitants. The town is perhaps most known for the Zeitpyramide, a public artwork started the early 90s and is scheduled completed in the year 3183. However, the historic town center is worth mentioning for having been declared a historic monument and was kept protected thanks to the circular town walls we see in this image. In the middle we see a marketplace together with the middle-class houses. The town has been referred to as the town of the fuchsias as the botanist Dr. Leonhart Fuchs was born and raised here. Therefore every year for two days the marketplace is filled with plants and scents, and a fuchsias pyramid is built with 1.000 fuchsias.

Central Park opened to the public for the first time in 1858 as a 778 acre or 3sq.km park (later on expanded to 843 acres or 3.41sq.km). The park is approx. 4 km long and 1 km in width. To walk across the entire park it would take you approximately 45 minutes. Many think Central Park is one of the largest city parks in the USA, however San Fransisco’s Golden Gate Park is 20% bigger in size.

Here a new aerial of Stuyvesant Town after the installation of solar panels (slide for before image). In 2019 a total of 9,671 solar panels were installed on the roofs of the apartment buildings, the largest composition of a private multi-family rooftop solar panel in the United States. It is an initiative carried out in line with the NYC Carbon Challenge, which supports New York City’s goal to reduce carbon emissions 80% by the year 2050. History and Facts about Stuyvesant Town⠀
Le Corbusier has described New York as a city “utterly devoid of harmony.” He wasn’t impressed by the tall towers, and stated that they were a product of an inferiority complex. He believed the city would do better by building buildings that don't outdo each other, and which were more or less identical. ⠀

Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, also known as Stuy Town, was planned in 1942 as a post-war affordable housing project for war veterans and is an early example of a towers in a park design in New York. The idea of the design was to create a country within a city, and was created by Robert Moses. The design has moreover resemblance to Le Corbusier's Radiant City; separating pedestrians from cars and commercial spaces. ⠀

The town contains 110 cruciform-like buildings with 11,250 apartments. Only 25% of the area is occupied by the 110 buildings, while the rest is open space.⠀

Location | Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça, Elvas, Portugal⠀

The fort is located just north of the town Elvas bordering Spain. The town has some of the best preserved military architecture (star forts) and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. The fort, more commonly known as Forte Conde de Lippe (named after its designer Marshal Lippe), is approximately 150 metres quadrangle with pentagonal bastions in the corners. In the centre of the fort we find a decorated chapel. ⠀

Sun Lakes is a master-planned community developed around the mid 70s by a single builder, Robson Communities. The Sun Lakes Resort was created for retired citizens to provide excellent and relaxing surroundings. In the area you find 10,000 homes, five golf courses, five country clubs, two shopping centers and a medical and education center.

Location | Namcheon, Busan, South Korea

Namcheon Samik Beach is a apartment complex located in Busan built in 1979. There are a total of 33 buildings within the complex all with a total of 12 floors. In total there are 3,060 units and 3,240 parking spaces available.

There are currently plans to redevelop the complex into a modern skyscraper complex consisting of 12 towers ranging from 40-61 floors with a total of 3,200-3,700 units. Estimated completion year is 2022.

What are your thoughts about this? Should the waterfront not be publicly available and free from these large tower developments blocking views from behind?

Location | Den Sorte Plads, Copenhagen, Denmark

"Den sorte plads" (the black place) is part of a public park complex named "Superkilen" in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was opened in 2012 and consists of the 3 park areas: "den sorte plads" (the black place), "den røde plads" (the red place) and "grønt område" (a green area).

The public park complex's is an municipal initiative to raise the standards of the living areas in the area Outer Nørrebro, and the objective is to promote an international high-quality city development to inspire other cities and districts to do the same. The park is filled with items from all over the world symbolizing the ethnical diversity of the area with more than 50 different nationalities. "Den sorte plads" works as a meeting point for its inhabitants and has palm trees from China and barbecue facilities among other amenities.

Location | Suloszowa, Poland

Suloszowa is a small village with almost 6,000 inhabitants, and has one of the longest streets in Poland (stretching 9 km non-stop) as shown in the image.

Suloszowa is located just 29 kilometres northwest of Krakow, and is connected to famous attractions including Ojcowski National Park and Pieskowa Scala (14th century cliffside castle).

Location | Botanical Garden, Barakaldo, Spain

In Barakaldo we find a beautiful park and garden which takes up a large space in the city centre. It is almost circular and is located beside the circular row of high rise buildings. The park has a white garden, seasonal gardens with more than 1,200 species of plants and trees, and an exotic garden with several flowers, streams, waterfalls and a central lake. The park is installed with hanging lamps, street furniture and exiting green elements.
