This week's reflection is on our relationship with our emotions.

This morning, I got to witness my relationship with frustration. (Having a strong-willed toddler at home is an amazing spiritual practice). Frustration feels like a knot in my belly, a rush of heat, a tight jaw. At one point, I had to step into another room and take a few breaths before continuing to engage, and even after I returned, I was not as patient as I wished. If I'm honest, I am still holding onto this feeling right now, even though it was 90-minutes ago (forget about 90-seconds).

Many of us have been taught to deny our hunger. We've been conditioned to stay silent about our desires, to follow the expected path, to measure our food, to minimize our size.

Nourishing ourselves begins when we realize that all our hunger is valid. All of our longings and cravings are messages from deep inside of us that simply wish to be honored-- and fed.

Over the next month, we'll take time to enter into a conversation with the physical, emotional, social and spiritual layers of our being. Together, we'll get curious about our hunger, we'll ask questions, and we'll practice listening to (and welcoming) what comes up.
