I see so many forum post and social media comments asking what is Foil X like compared to Foil Y? What foil will be the right one for me?

Well I got the chance to try the new-ish F-one SK8 550, part of a range of foils that are more know for winging or surf foiling, but it seemed a good opportunity to compare it to my trusty Escape 630 and see how it works for kitefoiling.

It will come as no surprise that it was pretty damn good! F-one makes amazing foils, its why I ride them, but what is more interesting is to look a little deeper at the design characteristics of the two foils. Then see how that affects the riding characteristics of them both.

I also look at how the SK8 range might work in the larger sizes for kitefoiling and some ideas on the cross over potential between kitefoiling and winging.

Love to know anyone riding SK8’s for kitefoiling, what they like about them and any cross over they are making work with winging or surf foiling.

We are gearing up for our 2024 Kitefoiling Camps - back to a couple of old favourite spots along with some new locations that we’re excited to visit for some kitefoiling adventures!

As always we are very much focused on coaching and ensuring we help you to progress during our camps, but also, continue to do so afterwards.

We’ve just rounded off an awesome week of kitefoil coaching in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, working alongside FeelViana Hotel with our travel partner Planet Travel Holidays .

We had a tricky start to the week with a big storm system hovering off the coast in the Atlantic, stopping the thermals and bringing in lots of erratic weather. ⛈🌊 But this gave us sometime to get some key fundamental techniques covering in our video briefings, a key part of every Progression Live Camp.

Then after some spot scouting we managed to find a location up the coast that worked well in the southerly winds and offered us a break from the huge swell that was pounding Viana’s beaches. Everyone was put through their paces with changing conditions but we managed to adapt stances and tweak foil setups to ensure everyone was maximising their time on the water and kick off several days of foiling progress!

The latter part of the week has us returned to the Viana do Castelo we know and love ❤️. Perfect flat water and a moderate thermal kicking in mid afternoon gave everyone the opportunity to push their riding forwards another notch and everyone was ripping around after the harder conditions we had before. It just goes to show that the tricky conditions make us a much more rounded foiler, and we can get something out of every session.

Thank you to all the guests this week - Justin, Colleen, Michaela, Matthias, Roger, Roberto, Mark and David - you stuck in there through the tough beginning and got the sweet reward at the end of the week of foot changes, downloops and various tacks, to name just a few.

As I get more people signing up for Virtual Coaching, more GoPro footage is coming through with that annoying thing where half way around a gybe or tack the picture goes upside down! My neck was getting sore trying to review these clips but thanks to Gavin Young and his perfectly submitted footage there is a solution! If you have a GoPro 9 or 10 you can use the MAX Lens Mod setting to keep the shots level the whole time - the best bit, you don't have to use the additional lens attachment to take advantage of this feature.

So I wrote up the steps for how to setup your GoPro 9/10 for anyone who wants to stop standing on their head 🙃! And it makes comparing your footage to my library footage so much clearer during Virtual Coaching session 💡

It’s easy to say to a new kitefoiler - "Get more weight forwards!" - but how do you actually do that? Many find they take their front hand off the bar to make this happen but it makes controlling the kite far hard, can put other parts of your body into the wrong position and result in other issues in the future.

So in this new YouTube video I look at what taking a hand off the bar actually does to your body position to allow you to get weight forward and then show you how you can achieve this using two key techniques:
1️⃣ Shoulders towards the nose of the board
2️⃣ Hip forwards
