When I started studying yoga therapy, I felt like traveling back in time, during a biology lesson. That brought me joy because I am fascinated by the science of human anatomy, and physiology.
By studying each body system, it is more clear to me that movement and breath are inherent to life.
Yoga tradition, together with the human anatomy and physiology science, helps us better understand the human being, and select practices that brings us health, balance, and joy.
In this post I highlight some main reasons for practicing yoga: movement, breath, and relaxation.
✧Yoga asana and pranayama can support the flow of lymph which is our main defense against disease.
✧Regular yoga practice can support insulin sensitivity. When insulin sensitivity is high, cells respond effectively to insulin, allowing glucose to enter the body cells and be used for energy.
✧Yoga asana can help avoid falls and stay independent as we age.
✧Regular yoga practice may help lower the blood pressure, and prevent heart related disease.
✧Yoga asana and pranayama can elevate the levels of a brain chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is associated with better mood and decreased anxiety.
P.S. Today is the International Happiness Day! May you be happy and healthy! 💛
