Preparing for MoveUp project Kosovo 2026: Training Sessions in Romania Build Momentum⚽️🏀
During February and March, Romania hosted a series of dedicated training sessions in walking football, walking basketball and catchball as part of the preparation process for the upcoming MOVEUP competition, which will take place in Kosovo at the end of April.🗓️
These sessions brought together participants from the senior clubs of District 6 in Bucharest, creating an energetic and supportive environment focused on movement, inclusion and well-being.🤝
The initiative reflects the broader MOVEUP mission of promoting adapted team sports such as walking football, walking basketball and catchball for adults, especially in inclusive and health-oriented settings.
The training programme in Romania was delivered by certified coaches from the Romanian Football Federation, the Catchball Association, and the Bucharest Basketball Association.🥇
Their expertise ensured that each session was both professionally managed and adapted to the needs of the participants, while also helping teams build confidence and readiness ahead of the international event in Kosovo.🌍
Beyond physical preparation, the sessions also highlighted the social and emotional value of sport.💬
Participants had the opportunity to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy the team spirit that stands at the heart of the MOVEUP project.🏃🏻‍♀️
The feedback gathered after the sessions was very encouraging. 📊
More than 84% of participants reported satisfaction in terms of wellness, underlining the positive impact of these activities not only on physical engagement but also on motivation, enjoyment and overall well-being.✨
As excitement builds toward the MOVEUP competition in Kosovo, the Romanian training sessions have already shown the power of adapted sport to bring people together, strengthen communities and prepare participants for meaningful international experiences.🤝

For people living with chronic health conditions, spending time outdoors isn’t just refreshing — it’s therapeutic.

Here's how nature-based movement supports body and mind:
🌳 Reduces stress & anxiety
Natural environments lower cortisol levels and promote relaxation, helping manage mood and mental health.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle movement, big impact
Activities like walking, stretching, or tai chi in parks are low-impact yet boost cardiovascular health, joint mobility, and stamina.

🌞 Boosts vitamin D
Sun exposure helps the body produce vitamin D, essential for bone health, immune support, and energy levels.

🤝 Encourages social connection
Outdoor group activities reduce isolation and help build supportive networks — key for long-term wellness.

🧘‍♂️ Improves focus & sleep
Green spaces help regulate sleep cycles, improve attention span, and reduce fatigue.

🌺 Increases motivation
Fresh air, changing scenery, and the calming effect of nature make it easier — and more enjoyable — to stay active.

➡️ Tip: Even 20–30 minutes outside a few times a week can make a difference. Start small, stay consistent.

Let nature be part of your care plan. 🌤️

MoveUp project: How exercise helps with pain management

Gentle, regular movement eases pain by improving circulation, flexibility, and joint support. 🌿

Choose low-impact options: walking, pool work, tai chi, mobility flows—or skills from walking football, walking basketball, and soft-throw catchball. Warm up slowly, pace yourself, and finish with light stretching. 🧘‍♀️

Promoting social inclusion: adapting sport for people with CHC creates equal participation and reduces isolation. Encouraging healthy lifestyles: activities for diabetes and hypertension back the EU objective of reducing sedentary lifestyles through sport. 🌞

On the occasion of World Obesity Day, we highlight how inclusive physical activity can support people living with obesity and other chronic conditions. Through the Move Up project, we promote accessible, enjoyable movement that helps improve health, confidence, and quality of life—because everyone deserves the opportunity to move, participate, and feel better.

MoveUp project:Mental health benefits of physical activity

Exercise lifts mood and calms the mind. 😊
Endorphins rise, stress drops—anxiety eases and focus returns. Try a brisk walk, a short walking football shuffle, light cycling, or a friendly catchball game. 🧠✨

Promoting social inclusion: tailoring sports for people living with chronic health conditions (CHC) creates an inclusive environment with equal opportunities, combating solitude, isolation, and depression.

Encouraging healthy lifestyles: MOVEUP supports health-enhancing activity for people with diabetes and hypertension, aligning with EU goals against sedentary habits. 💙

As part of the MOVEUP project, International Diabetes Federation Europe contributed to the development of the MOVEUP Handbook of Best Practices, which supports the design and delivery of inclusive physical activity programmes for people living with chronic health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes. 🏃‍♂️🌍

Drawing on a literature review and focus group discussions conducted by project partners across Europe, the Handbook outlines six core components for best practice, covering programme design, accessibility, inclusivity, staff training, safety policies and community engagement. 📚🗣️🇪🇺

The Handbook serves as both a practical guide and an evaluation tool to support organisations in creating accessible, person-centred physical activity opportunities across Europe. 📘📊

A very useful tool!

You can read about it and much more on the 3rd newsletter of the project. It's ready!!

💙 MOVEUP Literature Review: The Power of Physical Activity in Managing Chronic Health Conditions

The Erasmus+ MOVEUP project is proud to share a new literature review conducted by project partner, IDF Europe, exploring how sport and physical activity can help prevent and manage type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

📊 The review shows that even small increases in physical activity can lead to meaningful improvements in blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and overall wellbeing. It also highlights the added benefits of resistance training, high-intensity interval training and team sports, when tailored to individual needs.

🔍 Beyond health outcomes, the research examines common barriers to participation — including low motivation, fear of injury and lack of support — and identifies key facilitators such as social connection, healthcare guidance and behaviour change strategies.

🌍 While promising policy initiatives are emerging across Europe, inactivity rates remain high, underlining the need for stronger, more inclusive action.

Findings from this literature review informed subsequent phases of the MOVEUP project, including supporting the development of a best-practice handbook for physical activity programmes targeting people living with chronic conditions.

During the Corporate Games Conference held on January 15 in Bucharest, organizers presented MoveUp project, an Erasmus+ Sport initiative dedicated to making physical activity more accessible, safe, and motivating for people living with chronic health conditions.

The MOVE UP presentation highlighted a powerful message: chronic conditions do not mean stepping away from movement or community life. When physical activity is adapted to individual needs and supported by the right environment, it can help people manage symptoms, improve functional capacity, strengthen mental wellbeing, and build confidence in everyday life 🌱💪

Even small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful benefits—especially through inclusive, progression-based programs.
Why sport and structured activity matter for people with chronic conditions 👇

✅ Better long-term health & quality of life
Adapted physical activity supports cardiovascular health, strength, mobility, and energy—helping people stay active and independent.

🧠 Mental wellbeing & resilience
Movement reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep, and boosts confidence and motivation.

🤝 Social connection & belonging
Group-based activities reduce isolation and create supportive peer networks, especially for those excluded from traditional
sport settings.

🛡️ Safer participation through adaptation
Tailored intensity, gradual progression, and clear guidance allow participants to exercise safely and confidently within their limits.

🌍 MOVE UP contributes to building healthier, more connected communities—proving that sport is not just for the already-fit, but for everyone, including people managing chronic conditions in the workplace and beyond.

MoveUp project: The role of nutrition in supporting physical activity

Food powers movement!

🥗 Build balanced plates with colorful veggies, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats. Hydrate before, during, and after sessions.

For longer practices—like extended walking football or catchball—have a light carb snack; after, include protein for recovery. Align meals with meds and energy levels.

MOVE UP’s objectives include promoting voluntary activities in sport, social inclusion, equal opportunities, and awareness of health-enhancing physical activity through increased participation and equal access to sport for all. 🌟
